Warrington Wolves injury blow confirmed as Sam Burgess provides update

Warrington Wolves hooker Danny Walker will miss the next 10 weeks of action through injury, Sam Burgess has confirmed. The Wolves were beaten 22-20 by Wigan Warriors at Magic Weekend, their third defeat in four Super League games, without a number of key men.

George Williams’ absence has been well documented, while Marc Sneyd suffered a fractured eye socket while in action against St Helens last month. However, Burgess has revealed another blow with Danny Walker set to undergo surgery on a knee injury.

Walker’s injury was reported last week but the head coach has now confirmed he looks set to miss the next two and a half to three months of action as he prepares to go under the knife.

“He’s going to be out for a little while, he’s going to be out for about 10 weeks I think,” Burgess said at St James’ Park after his side’s defeat. “It’s unfortunate.

“He’s booked in for surgery next week, if that goes ahead it will be 10-12 weeks, it’s unfortunate for Danny and the group. We’ll look forward to welcoming him back later in the year.”

Warrington Wolves boss on Lachlan Fitzgibbon injury

Giving an update on Lachlan Fitzgibbon, who was unable to finish the game, Burgess outlined his hope that he will be able to make next week’s Challenge Cup semi-final against Leigh Leopards.

“Lachie didn’t make the second half but I think he’ll be alright for next week, otherwise I think we’ll be OK,” Burgess added.

On the game itself, with Joe Philbin and Rodrick Tai scoring and Jake Thewlis bagging a brace, the Wire boss said: “I’m proud of the effort. I can’t question our commitment to each other and the bravery to stay in the contest.

“It would have been nice if Stef kicked that goal, but we were always behind and chasing but we were always in it.”
