Warrington Wolves have been hit with another injury blow as utility back Oli Leyland has been ruled out for the rest of the season.
The 24-year-old started in the halves against Hull KR last Friday but suffered the injury in the first half.
It’s now been confirmed by the club that Leyland has sustained an ACL injury, meaning he will miss the rest of 2025.
Leyland was playing in his fifth appearance for the Wolves in 2025, having joined from London Broncos in the off-season, following their relegation to the Championship.
He’s also made one appearance for Widnes Vikings this season as part of the Wolves’ dual registration partnership with the Championship club.
Warrington Wolves halfback dilemma ahead of Wembley showdown
Warrington have been without halfbacks Leon Hayes, Marc Sneyd and George Williams throughout this season, with Williams aiming to be back for next week’s Challenge Cup final against Hull KR.
Sneyd is included in this week’s 21-man squad to face Castleford Tigers, so he looks set to join Stefan Ratchford in the halves prior to Wembley.
Ratchford himself had been out of favour under coach Sam Burgess but has been included to cover the club’s halfback injury crisis in recent weeks.
Hayes missed the start of the season and was expected to be fit by round 5 but has had a setback to the injury that he suffered last season.
It’s a blow for Leyland as even with George Williams’ return, he could’ve featured off the bench in the Cup final next week.
Leyland is the second player at the Wolves to suffer an ACL injury, joining Matty Ashton on the sidelines.
Ashton did his MCL and ACL during Warrington’s Challenge Cup semi-final against Leigh Leopards earlier in the month.
His injury is also a blow for England coach Shaun Wane as he was expected to be included in the end of season Ashes series.
