Warrington Wolves suffered a season-low defeat to Salford Red Devils, resulting in outrage from the club’s fans.
Salford fielded nine loanees and a number of debutants, including signings Jack Walker and Isaac Shaw, but they were able to beat an out-of-form Warrington side 25-12, with the Wolves’ slim play-off hopes effectively ended.
Having lost to Huddersfield Giants 23-10 last week, a game in which they surrendered a 10-6 lead with 15 minutes to go, it got even worse for Warrington tonight.
Pressure has been ramping up on Sam Burgess with the side’s form since their Challenge Cup defeat having fallen off a cliff.
Boos rung out at the Halliwell Jones Stadium when the final hooter sounded, beaten by a bit-part Salford side who had only won twice before this season.
Sam Burgess might be able to point to the fact that three players were handed debuts and Warrington were without a number of key men, however, the Wolves’ fans were not willing to accept any excuses.
Warrington Wolves fans’ furious reaction after Salford Red Devils defeat
Reaction from the fans on the club’s X page said it all as the club’s official full-time post receiving dozens of responses within minutes as fans aired their grievances. Here are a number of the responses.
@DamienC1985 – An embarrassingly pathetic abysmal performance.
@sian879 – As a lifelong Warrington fan, we’re used to more lows than highs but this is shocking.
@NathanBrowneee – Get them all out.
@MFx15 – I really love this club, but I hate everything about it right now.
@knoxywire – If Simon Moran had a ruthless streak and wanted success, he’d sack Burgess etc. We can’t carry on like this.
@TXG1814 – That was the most disgraceful performance I’ve ever watched in 25 years…. CLUB STATEMENT TONIGHT. BURGESS OUT, FITZPATRICK OUT, PLAYERS OUT.
@BillyGrimshaw – In a crowded field, this is the worst ever from the entity immigrating a sports club that is the Warrington Wolves. Heads should roll, but they never do.
@JamieTomlin_ – Burgess surely has to go now, awful.

Not a Wire supporter, but unlike Christopher Brown, I’d only have one question to ask Burgess. “What are you doing still here”.
Equally, I’d want to know why the chairman put a man in charge of a SL club with aspirations to the top four (yes – they have), with little to no coaching experience!
With each successive week I’ve been looking for one of those “by mutual agreement” parting of the ways announcements.
Nothing.
Either the owner’s patience must be virtually endless, or Burgess’ settlement figure must be astronomical.

Now explain to me why Shaun Wane will almost guaranteed go with George Williams in the halves over Mickey Lewis, one is making a determined bid for relegation, the other strutting round the pitch like he owns it.
