A potentially serious injury has added to Warrington Wolves’ woes in their 36-12 hammering at Leeds Rhinos.
Winger Arron Lindop suffered knee damage in the first half. He was able to walk off the field and is set to undergo scans, but coach Sam Burgess fears he could have become the latest Wolves player to suffer a season-ending anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture.
“It is not looking great,” Burgess said in his post-match press conference. “We will scan it and confirm it, but it is not looking too good for Arron.
“If it’s what we think it is, he has joined a few other guys in that situation at our club. They will form a close bond and work hard and he will certainly be back. He is very determined.”
ACL injuries have already ruled out Matty Ashton and Oli Leyland for the Wolves for the rest of 2025 and asked if Lindop could have joined that list, Warrington coach Burgess added: “I don’t want to say anything and look stupid, but everything is pointing that way.”
Lindop, 19, has scored six tries in 11 Super League games this season. “He has got a lot of promise,” Burgess said. “He’s a lovely lad and he has a great family.
“It is unfortunate for Arron if that’s the case, but we have got to manage it the best way we can, move forward and give the best support possible for Arron and his family.”
Warrington Wolves boss refuses Challenge Cup as excuse for Leeds loss
Warrington will also be without forward James Harrison for next week’s home game against Huddersfield Giants after he failed a head injury assessment.
Saturday’s defeat left Warrington in eighth spot on the table and facing a struggle to qualify for the play-offs with the Wolves possibly set to be four points adrift if results go against them on Sunday.
Accepting his side were second-best, Burgess refused to use the sapping Challenge Cup final loss to Hull KR a week earlier as an excuse.
He said: “Leeds played very well. I thought the first half was a high-quality game, the ball was in play a long time, but in the second half they blew us off the park.
“Everyone can search for different answers or excuses, but at the end of the day we had to turn up and play. Everyone’s playing every week now so you’ve got to be able to back it up – that’s the bottom line.”
He stressed: “We have got to be better in some areas, for sure. You can see we are trying our backsides off in areas, but it just wasn’t happening for us. Leeds were very good and we’ve got to improve on a couple of things, no doubt about that.”
