
Warrington Wolves have confirmed the news of the sad passing of club director Lance James with tributes paid to the 79-year-old.
James had served on the club’s Board of Directors since 2003, meaning he had overseen the majority of the Wolves’ time in Super League, a period which has seen them make numerous Grand Finals and lift four Challenge Cups.
On top of his role on the Board of Directors, he has also acted as the President of the Warrington Wolves Supporters Trust for 15 years, helping to develop the bond between fans and the club.
The news of James’ passing was confirmed by Warrington Wolves on Sunday evening with the club taking to social media and releasing a heartfelt statement to announce the sad news.
That statement also saw comments from Wire owner Simon Moran who paid tribute to James, labelling him as a “true gentleman” who “will be sorely missed”.

The club’s statement read: “Warrington Wolves are deeply saddened to announce the passing of club director Lance James at the age of 79.
“Lance was an extremely popular figure, admired and much loved by everyone at the club.
“He had served on our Board of Directors since 2003 giving his time, expertise and energy in helping to progress the club’s growth both on and off the field.
“His passion, charisma and dedication to the Wire will leave a lasting impact and legacy.
“Lance also served as President of the Warrington Wolves Supporters Trust since 2010, strengthening the bond between the club and our supporters. He was incredibly passionate about the club’s youth development and enhancing the pathway up to first team.”
Warrington Wolves Owner Simon Moran said: “Lance was a true gentleman who cared passionately about the club. His presence, guidance and friendship will be sorely missed. The thoughts of myself and everyone at the club are with his family and friends at this difficult time.”
