Warrington Wolves claim made as latest NRL deal confirmed

Warrington Wolves have reportedly missed out on the signing of a former Penrith Panthers star, Taylan May.

Wests Tigers have struck a deal to sign May immediately but it seems he was given the option to move to Super League, with the Wolves said to have made him an offer.

The 23-year-old, who played for the Panthers in both the 2023 and 2024 World Club Challenge defeats, was axed from the four-time premiership winning side in July last year, following an arrest and charge by police.

The charges were withdrawn in March, meaning the winger is now free to play and he has now signed a train and trial deal with Wests until the end of the season.

However, reports have emerged that Super League club Warrington Wolves made a bid for the Samoan international.

After the release of Zane Musgrove last month, the Wire have a quota spot to use up, and according to Nine’s Wide World of Sports, May was offered a deal to join Super League, which was turned down.

He was also offered the chance to sign for Wayne Bennett’s South Sydney Rabbitohs, but has decided to join the Tigers, the club his brother Terrell plays for.

The move made sense from a Warrington point of view. Matty Ashton is out for the remainder of the season with an ACL injury, and May would have been a great replacement for the England International.

The deal at Wests for May only runs until the end of the season, so there is chance Sam Burgess could still get the man he wants, should the move to Leichhardt Oval not work out.

Wire are one of three English clubs to have a quota space available, along with Wigan Warriors and Salford Red Devils.
