Despite a 34-12 win over Hull KR, Warrington Wolves head coach Sam Burgess has explained that his side were still ‘a little bit off’.
Wire opened up a 28-0 lead by the 53rd minute, largely courtesy of their brilliant first half, which Burgess acknowledged when he spoke post-match to Sky Sports.
“We were a little bit off, to be honest. I thought the first half was very clean, what we needed to do, but I still think we gave KR too many opportunities,” he said.
“The second half, we’d like again, but we’re happy. Happy to get two points.”
Those two points have moved Warrington into fourth and ensured they’re four points clear of seventh but if they’re to kick on for the top two, Burgess was clear that improvements were needed.
“We really needed it but no doubt about it, we can improve a lot,” he said.
“The start of the second half was really poor. We probably could have done better today but happy in a lot of ways too.”

Warrington Wolves spine stars impress
There were too many standout performers to count from Warrington but the Wolves’ young full-back Lachlan Webster picked up the Man of the Match medal after scoring a try and racking up 160 metres.
“He’s awesome. He was so courageous today,” Burgess said of the youngster, noting a moment late in the game when he was caught high but tried to play on.
“I think it’s an important point we need to make in the game. He got cleaned up around the head with 10 minutes to go. He wanted to play on and I think a lot of players in the league need to take advantage of that.
“Just get on with the game. Play in the spirit it should be, and that’s what Lachy does so I’m really proud of him.
“He’s got a couple of areas he can tidy up, but otherwise pretty good.”
Danny Walker was another spine player who came in for massive praise with the number nine outplaying his England counterpart Jez Litten with a performance that will surely be putting him in the England frame for the World Cup.
Burgess said: “I thought his intent early in the game was great. He ran the ball, he defended well, he played 80 minutes in tough conditions.
“I think for Danny, he kept it simple today.”
