Wakefield Trinity v Wigan Warriors line-ups predicted with Bevan French call made

Wigan Warriros

Wigan Warriors travel to face Wakefield Trinity tonight and all eyes are on whether 2023 Man of Steel winner Bevan French will play.

French has missed the last two games with the first of those being less surprising given that Wigan were taking on Salford Red Devils, however, Matt Peet sprung a surprise last week when French was not named to take on Huddersfield Giants.

It almost came at a cost as well with Wigan trailing until the dying seconds when Jack Farrimond, the man who had replaced French, scored the winner for the Warriors having scored earlier in the match as well.

A player like Farrimond isn’t a bad replacement to have for French with Kevin Brown recently dubbing the teen as among the best in Super League to not play regularly.

Looking at their hosts Wakefield, they were on the other side of a narrow result with Leigh winning 24-20 at Belle Vue in a competitive affair.

We’ve predicted how both Wakefield Trinity and Wigan Warriors will line-up based on injury news and the confirmed 21-man squads.

How Wakefield Trinity could line up against Wigan

Daryl Powell named an unchanged 21-man squad meaning his side could be very similar to last week. Of the 17 who didn’t play in Round 14, Jayden Myers will represent the reserves but Cam Scott, Seth Nikotemo and Lachlan Walmsley will all be pushing for a chance.

Max Jowitt is clearly best-utilised at full-back so that could mean Josh Rourke is a utility on the bench alongside hooker Harvey Smith, however, Powell might opt to carry Nikotemo to try and match Wigan’s pack.

The experienced Matty Russell performed well against Leigh so could beat out Walmsley once again, as could Corey Hall of Cam Scott meaning that Nikotemo in for Rourke on the bench may be the only change made.

Predicted Wakefield Trinity XIII: Max Jowitt, Matty Russell, Corey Hall, Oliver Pratt, Tom Johnstone, Jake Trueman, Mason Lino, Mike McMeeken, Liam Hood, Isaiah Vagana, Jack Croft, Josh Griffin, Jay Pitts

Interchanges: Mathieu Cozza, Harvey Smith, Caius Faatili, Seth Nikotemo

How Wigan Warriors could line up against Wakefield

Matt Peet confirmed that the club were hopeful that Bevan French would play whilst there was also a boost in regards to Luke Thompson, who has been sidelined with broken ribs of late.

Both were named in the squad and will both be a chance. Peet had previously explained that it was about managing pain for Thompson so any return could be in a smaller role.

Given how strong Wigan’s pack is, it could be best to leave Thompson out with the likes of Ethan Havard, Liam Byrne, Patrick Mago, Tyler Dupree and Harvie Hill all featuring last week. As such, French for Farrimond could be the only change made.

Predicted Wigan Warriors XIII: Jai Field, Zach Eckersley, Adam Keighran, Jake Wardle, Liam Marshall, Bevan French, Harry Smith, Ethan Havard, Brad O’Neill, Liam Byrne, Junior Nsemba, Liam Farrell, Kaide Ellis.

Interchanges: Patrick Mago, Kruise Leeming, Tyler Dupree, Harvie Hill
