Wakefield Trinity have announced that a promising young talent has signed a new long-term deal with the club that will keep him around until the end of 2029.
Eighteen-year-old Ellis Lingard made his Super League debut earlier this season, and started with a bang as he scored two tries in a thumping win over Salford Red Devils.
Representing Yorkshire at academy origin level, Lingard is highly-thought of at the DIY Kitchens Stadium, and is one of their hottest prospects to emerge from their production line.
Lingard has made just two appearances for the club, one in Super League and one in the Championship last season. He inked a new deal just last year to keep him around until 2027, but has now put pen to paper on a longer-term extension that will see him stay at the club for at least the next four and a half years.
After Trinity director of rugby, Ste Mills revealed this week the club will putting a heap of effort into developing their youth pathways, the reward of being able to tie down such a talent will stand them in great stead going forward.

Speaking to the club website after his deal had been announced, the teenager couldn’t hide his delight that he has committed his future to the club.
Lingard said: “I’m absolutely buzzing to have extended till the end of 2029, it was a very easy decision and it’s nice to know my future is secured with a club that’s going in the right direction both on and off the field. The past few years have been incredible as I’ve grown and developed as a player and transitioning into the First Team has been an easy step with the players that we have at the club welcoming me into the group.”
Trinity head coach, Daryl Powell, was full of praise for the youngster, and believes he can go on to become a Trinity regular.
“We are delighted that Ellis has agreed to extend his deal with us. I’m looking forward to seeing him grow into a consistent Super League player over the coming years. He has made his debut and played for Yorkshire this year so has picked up quality experiences. He has some great role models at the club to help him develop and I know his desire to be the best he can be will drive his work ethic,” said Powell.
