Wakefield Trinity man Caius Faatili has committed his long-term future to the club by penning a new deal. Faatili has been one of the stars of Wakefield’s season so far and his form has been rewarded with a new three-year deal.
It means that the 23-year-old, who only joined the Trin in January, will now be with Daryl Powell’s side until the end of the 2028 season at least. It’s a deal that comes as a huge boost for the forward and for Wakefield, too, as the clubs strive to push on and establish themselves in the top six of Super League.
Faatili signed for Wakefield after impressing while playing for Sunshine Coast Falcons in the Queensland Cup last season, with the West Yorkshire club beating off competition to take him to Belle Vue.
The New Zealander has made 12 appearances for Wakefield this season, with two outings coming in the Challenge Cup. However, he has really shot to prominence in recent weeks with the prop scoring try tries in each of his last two games.
That includes the try he scored from 70m against Castleford Tigers at Magic Weekend and the two he bagged against Warrington Wolves last Sunday. As such, he has more than earned his new deal and with his future secure, he’ll be hoping to kick on.
Caius Faatili on his ‘easy decision’ to commit to Wakefield Trinity
“I am really happy to call Wakey home for the next three years and excited to see where we can go with the backing of fans and sponsors,” he told the Wakefield Trinity website after signing. “It was ultimately an easy decision after what has been a smooth transition to life over here for me and my family!”
Head coach Powell outlined his belief that Faatili is only going to get better as he continues to settle into life at Wakefield and grow as a player.
“Caius has been fantastic for us since he arrived in the UK. He’s growing with every week and the more game time he gets,” he said.
“He carries the ball with real intent and his defence has been solid. It’s clear to see he’s settled into the English game very quickly and we think he’s just going to get better over the years.
“He’s become a player the fans like pretty quickly and I’ve no doubt we’re going to see many special moments from Caius in a Wakefield shirt.”
