Wakefield Trinity tie down back to new long-term deal in latest boost

Wakefield Trinity

Wakefield Trinity full-back Josh Rourke has penned a new two-year deal with the West Yorkshire outfit. Rourke will now be with Trinity until the end of the 2027 season as he continues to thrive and develop in the colours of Wakefield.

The 25-year-old only joined the club in the off-season, making the move from the relegated London Broncos to Wakefield to prolong his time in Super League. He penned a one-year deal at the time, with the option for another year being tacked onto that contract.

However, he has impressed enough to earn a new contract and he can now approach the final 10 games of the season with security and peace of mind.

So far this season he has made 12 appearances under Daryl Powell and he has scored four tries along the way, including two on Saturday in a man of the match worthy performance against Catalans Dragons.

Wakefield Trinity man Josh Rourke reacts to new deal

“I’m absolutely buzzing to have signed a new deal to keep me here for another couple of years,” Rourke said after securing his future. “The club as a whole is heading in the right direction with what Matt and his family have done.

“The fans have been class with me and welcomed me and shown a lot of support. I’m looking forward to seeing how far my game can go in the next couple of years. When Powelly came to me and said not only did the club want to take up my option but to extend my contract further it filled me with so much confidence and pride.”

Head coach Daryl Powell said: “We signed Josh Rourke as a back up full-back to Max and he has grown to a position where he is really challenging to play on a regular basis. His ability to catch high balls is as good as anyone in the competition and probably as good as anyone in world rugby league in attacking positions.

“His confidence has grown in his all round game and I’m looking forward to seeing him develop further as a full back but also with an ability to play in the centre and on the wing.”
