Wakefield Trinity star to shave off iconic haircut for charity in aid of young fan 

When Wakefield Trinity announced the signing of Caius Faatili at the start of the season, very few had heard of him. However, he has become a fan favourite at the DIY Kitchens Stadium and will now take the pledge of shaving off his iconic mullet for charity.  

Faatili will be shaving his hair in support of young Wakefield fan, Sammy Balmforth, who is bravely battling leukaemia. He has been a Trinity fan all his life, and after his hair started falling out due to treatment, decided to shave it all off, leaving an avatar-like arrow on his head. 

He reached out to the club, and asked Faatili to join him and raise some more money for the Yorkshire-based charity, Candlelighters UK. The powerhouse prop accepted the challenge, and will shave off his iconic mullet on Friday 25 July, one day after Trinity host Leeds Rhinos at home.

In a post on Trinity’s social media, where Faatili accepted the challenge, the 23-year-old said: “What you’re doing is awesome Sammy, I’m looking forward to it and we can both be avatar’s together.”

Wakefield Trinity help raise thousands for charity

The Candlelighters charity is one that is close to the hearts of those at Wakefield Trinity as they are currently supporting Daryl Powell’s family after his grandson was diagnosed with cancer.

Recently, the fixture against Leigh raised funds for the charity with Powell and his daughter walking out onto the field with Powell’s grandson Clarke, who was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia.

At the time, Powell said of Candelighters: “Candlelighters have been unbelievable in providing support in all sorts of different ways, even grandparents’ meetings where you get to share the difficulties and emotional parts of what having an illness like this means to the whole family.

“My daughter would have found it much more difficult to get through this if it hadn’t been for Candlelighters. I can’t speak highly enough of the charity and the support it has put around my family at this very difficult time.”

Now, the charity will be supported once again by Wakefield Trinity with Faatili set to shave off that iconic mullet at the request of young fan Sammy.

At the time of writing, Sammy has already raised £2,117, which exceeds the original target of £1,000.
