Wakefield Trinity full-back Max Jowitt has been granted a testimonial by the RFL after his long-serving commitment and contribition to the club and the sport.
Jowitt, who made his Trinity debut back in 2014, has been with the club ever since, and barring a few loan moves earlier in his career has only ever represented his hometown club.
Making 183 appearances, 133 of those in Super league, the recently-turned 29-year-old has been an exceptional servant to the club, and more recently has been a key figure in the club’s revival back into Super League and into play-off contention.
As a result, the game’s governing body has rewarded him with a 12-month testimonial, which will allow fans to show their support and gratitude for the work that Jowitt has put in at both Wakefield and the game overall.
The full-back is currently contracted to the club for the 2027 season, with an option to extend that deal until 2028 should the club wish to do so.
However, with the arrival of Roger Tuivasa-Sheck next season, it was reported from sources elsewhere that Jowitt could be on the outer as a result, with his name was being circulated to clubs.
Whilst a testimonial doesn’t guarantee he is staying, and a move away could occur, it does heavily suggest that he will be staying put, leaving Daryl Powell with a huge selection headache next season.
Jowitt has been in some tremendous form since returning to the top flight, but the incoming dual-code international and NRL star’s best position is also full-back, meaning one of them will have to play out of position.
‘RTS’ is very comfortable in the centres or on the wing, but a player of his calibre, and the money spent on him, means Wakefield will want him to be as influential as possible and playing at full-back certainly does that.
But, with Jowitt’s testimonial highlighting a strong backing from the club, it does suggest that it is the Kiwi who could play in the three-quarters, leaving the 29-year-old to remain in his best role.
