Wakefield Trinity head coach Daryl Powell has admitted that the replacement for the outgoing Cam Scott could already be at the club, with an update issued on the club’s current recruitment stance for 2027.
On Wednesday evening, Trinity confirmed that Scott would leave at the end of the year with Bradford Bulls moving to announce that they had signed the Wakefield man for 2027.
Scott was one of just a few players at Wakefield who remained off-contract and when asked if it’s fair to say that their 2027 squad is more or less set, Daryl Powell admitted that the club are ‘not too far away’.
“There’s a couple of moving parts, but we’re pretty solid, I think,” he said in Thursday’s press conference.
“Obviously, we’re always looking at early retentions as well, which is important in the current marketplace, so there’s a few moving parts, but we’re not too far off.”

How will Wakefield Trinity replace Cam Scott
On Scott exiting, Powell paid tribute to the former Hull FC man who has been at the club since the start of the 2025 season.
The Trinity boss said: “I think he’s been great. He’s been a really good player for us. We made the decision that we’d move in a different direction and that happens. That doesn’t take away what Cam’s done with us.
“I think he’s been a high-quality player for us. He’s done some outstanding things and I know he’s looking forward to having a great season for the remainder of this.”
He added: “The nature of the beast is players move on. I want to wish him all the best when that comes around, but that’s out of the way now. It’s moving on and him playing his best rugby league when he does is an outstanding centre.”
On whether the club plan to sign a replacement or if his replacement is already at the club, Powell admitted that the answer may be a ‘little bit of both’.
We’re still looking at the moment but obviously, Pratty has played on the wing a lot this year and we see him potentially as a centre down the track.
“I think recruitment will play a bit of a part in that, and that depends on who’s available and who we can get, really. That’s ongoing at the moment.”
