Wakefield Trinity pay ‘substantial transfer fee’ to sign Davy Litten as Hull FC centre explains move

Wakefield Trinity have splashed the cash to buy out Davy Litten’s contract and sign the Hull FC man on a four-year deal from 2027.

Litten was contracted at Hull FC until the end of the 2028 season but after paying a ‘substantial transfer fee’, Wakefield have been able to sign the centre on a deal until the end of the 2030 season.

Reports had emerged about Wakefield’s interest in Davy Litten but when asked about that at his press conference last week, head coach Daryl Powell issued a stern ‘no comment’, however, he’s now spoken after confirmation of the signing.

“I am delighted we have been able to sign Davy Litten from next season,” Powell said.

“He will become part of one of the youngest and most exciting back lines in the competition. He is young and driven, I love his physicality and will to win and we feel he will become one of the premier backline players over the coming years.”

What Davy Litten said about Wakefield Trinity move

Litten will become the fifth confirmed signing for Wakefield ahead of 2027 with the standout among those also coming in the backs, as Trinity announced the signing of Roger Tuivasa-Sheck.

Unlike RTS, Litten still has his prime years ahead of him but the 23-year-old already has plenty of experience having played 68 times for Hull FC, including 42 times over the past two seasons.

Speaking on his move, Litten pointed to Trinity’s ambition as a key driving force behind why he wanted to make the switch.

He said: “I’m grateful to be signing for such a great club, the opportunity is something which really excites me and I can’t wait to get started in 2027. As a player you can see where the club is going on and off the field and it really impresses me. I can’t wait for the next four years.”

Ste Mills, the club’s director of rugby, added: “Davy is a fantastic signing for Wakefield Trinity and one that fits exactly what we’re looking to do with our recruitment.

“As soon as he became available, we knew we wanted to move quickly and get him to Trinity. He’s got a big, athletic frame and brings a real X-factor to our backline, which is something we’re really excited about for next season and beyond.

“Add him to RTS and the exciting young talent we already have at the club, and there’s a real energy around what we’re building here. We’re delighted to get Davy through the door and into the Trinity family. We can’t wait to see what he can bring to the team.”
