Wakefield Trinity name strong side for Hull KR clash as stars make injury returns

Wakefield Trinity will take on Hull KR this weekend in a pre-season friendly and Daryl Powell has named a very strong side for the clash.

The game will serve as Trinity’s final game of the pre-season whilst it will actually be the first for Hull KR so you can expect Willie Peters to also name a strong line-up.

That’s what Daryl Powell has done with the Wakefield boss naming a near full-stength side that also features a couple of players returning from injury, as well as a debutant.

Trinity have already played this off-season, taking on Leeds Rhinos on Boxing Day when a youthful side fell to an 18-10 defeat but this is the game where the likely starters will get a run out for Wakefield.

NRL signing Tyson Smoothy is set to debut whilst there are also injury boosts with Caleb Hamlin-Uele (shoulder) and Tom Johnstone (hernia) make their returns, with the latter playing through injury in the Ashes.

Wakefield Trinity team news for Hull KR clash

Trinity will travel to East Hull on Sunday with something close to a full-strength side and it could be a game where Daryl Powell drops selection hints for the season with his outside backs a key position of contention.

Oliver Pratt has been handed the number two in an apparent move from centre but Jayden Myers has impressed when playing and both men are named for Sunday’s game.

Myers started on Boxing Day with Pratt as his centre so that is also possible but fellow outside backs Cameron Scott, Corey Hall, Lachlan Walmsley, Will Tate and the aforementioned Tom Johnstone are all also named.

Jack Sinfield looks set to partner Jake Trueman in the halves with no Mason Lino named but ex-St Helens man Kian McGann could earn valuable game time.

The pack is boosted by Hamlin-Uele’s return and is close to full strength with just Mike McMeeken, Ky Rodwell and Jazz Tevaga missing out.
