Wakefield Trinity name five new signings for Boxing Day clash with Leeds Rhinos

Daryl Powell has named his Wakefield Trinity side that will take on Leeds Rhinos on Boxing Day with five new signings named.

The traditional Boxing Day clash will be the first time this pre-season that we’ve seen any Super League sides in action with previous games only involving Championship sides.

Leeds Rhinos had named their squad early with Brad Arthur selecting a youthful squad with a handful of senior players mixed in and Daryl Powell has done the same.

The 22-man squad selected by Wakefield boasts five new signings, including former Leeds Rhinos man Jack Sinfield who is very familiar with this fixture, having played in it for the Headingley club.

Fellow new signings Will Tate, Kian McGann, Jordan Williams and overseas man Tray Lolesio are all named as well with Daryl Powell using the game to blood in his new recruits and also test out many of his young talents.

Wakefield Trinity squad confirmed

Among the experienced players that most fans will recognise is last year’s standout Caius Faatili with the prop impressing in his first year in Super League.

He’ll front a pack that includes new signings Lolesio and Williams as well as Ky Rodwell and Isaiah Vagana, with Harvey Smith likely to play big minutes out of hooker.

Familiar backs include young talents Oliver Pratt and Jayden Myers, as well as last year’s signing Cameron Scott and this year’s new addition Will Tate.

Kick-off is at 11:30 am on Boxing Day at Headingley.
