Wakefield Trinity halfback on his team’s confidence after Salford Red Devils victory

Wakefield Trinity halfback Mason Lino celebrates with teammate

Wakefield Trinity halfback Mason Lino shared that his team are high on confidence as the season goes on, but admitted that there’s still room for improvement.

Lino was awarded player of the match following Trinity’s 72-10 victory over Salford Red Devils on Sunday afternoon, and the halfback continued his fine form in the record-equalling performance.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, the 31-year-old thought that other than the very beginning of the second half, his side played as well as he’d hoped.

He said: “I’m very happy with the boys, I thought we put in 76 minutes of a good performance. At the start of the second half, we let them get one in, but we stuck in there.

“When you’ve got a team like Salford who throw the ball around, if you’re not up to it defensively, you can get caught with your pants pulled down, like we did at the start of the second half.

“I’m very happy with the way that the boys approached the game. We had a tough mindset, and we’re happy to get the win.

Wakefield Trinity aim to improve week on week, says Lino

That win puts Wakefield back into the top six, a position that many fans and pundits didn’t think was possible with their squad for the 2025 season.

However, Lino admitted that there’s still a long way to go until the play-offs but that his team is just hoping to improve with every game.

He added: “Internally, we’re confident. We’re just making sure we get through week by week, keep improving, because we’re going to get games that are harder as the season goes on.

“We’ve got to make sure that we keep improving, and when we get a few more troops back, there will be competition for places as well. It’s looking good for us at the moment.”

Wakefield Trinity next face Leeds Rhinos, who themselves have hit form at the right time, currently sitting in third in the table.

Trinity beat the Rhinos in the opening round of Super League but Lino believes that both sides have changed since February.

He finished: “It’ll be tough, another derby, Leeds are playing really well. I thought they played extremely well yesterday, so it’ll be a big game for us next week.

“We’re confident, and I know Leeds are too, so it’ll be a tough game and we’re looking forward to it.”
