Boss Daryl Powell says he will make changes to his team as Wakefield Trinity aim to bounce back from successive defeats and increase the pressure on top-six rivals Hull FC.
Trinity have a new injury concern over second-row Josh Griffin following last week’s 44-2 drubbing at Wigan Warriors and Powell is looking to shake things up in Saturday’s visit of Huddersfield Giants.
Trinity were also beaten by St Helens and their scheduled visit to Salford Red Devils two weeks ago was cancelled, with Wakefield being awarded a 48-0 win.
Speaking at his weekly preview press conference today (Friday), Powell said: “I think there will be a couple of changes, with the nature of the last couple of performances.
“We’ve got a couple of guys who are creaking a bit with little bits of injuries. Josh Griffin, for example, is in the squad, but unlikely to play.
“He has got an ankle issue that will keep him out, but it’s not bad. He will be okay for next week.”
‘No pressure’ on Wakefield Trinity in play-off race
Winger Lachlan Walmsley has dropped out of Trinity’s 21 after taking a blow to the head last week. Powell said: “He passed his hia (head injury assessment) and went back on, but afterwards we were looking at him thinking he probably needs a bit of a breather.
“It hasn’t been forced on us, it is just us taking a precautionary measure to look after him.
“We’ve got a couple of wingers in there, Jayden Myers and Matty Russell, who haven’t played massively, so we’ve got some options.”
With four games left in the regular season, Trinity are seventh in Betfred Super League, a point behind Hull who occupy the sixth and final play off spot. Hull are at home against in-form Leeds Rhinos on Saturday afternoon, before Wakefield face Giants.
Trinity have the easier run-in on paper, also visiting the bottom two of Castleford Tigers and Salford Red Devils either side of a trip to league leaders Hull KR, while Hull are away to the Robins next week and finish with home games against Warrington Wolves and Catalans Dragons.
Powell insisted: “We have got to go and prove how good we can be over the last four games. If we look after ourselves and don’t worry too much about permutations, it will be what it’ll be.
“I don’t think there’s any real pressure on us, nobody expected us to be in this position. We’ve been pretty chilled this week. I think it’s important we can go and play our game without feeling any weight of pressure, because I don’t think there is any on us.”
