Wakefield Trinity head coach Daryl Powell had his say after his side’s dominant Super League win over Huddersfield Giants.
It was a 46-10 win for Wakefield with the Giants only managing to get on the board with tries after five and six minutes respectively of each half.
Outside of those slow starts, Wakefield dominated throughout and that was the verdict of Trinity boss Daryl Powell, who spoke to Sky Sports post-match.
“I thought the boys were outstanding. We started both halves probably a little bit slow, but once we got our teeth into the game, I thought some of our attacking play was outstanding.”

One of those attacking players who shone was Jayden Myers with the young outside back deputising once again for Tom Johnstone, however, he stepped into the shoes of the England international very well.
Myers bagged a brace, rising high to secure Jake Trueman’s kick for his first before putting the footwork on for his second and Powell was keen to praise him.
The head coach said: “He’s very strong and he’s finding his feet in the team. I thought he was great tonight. Obviously, Tom’s missing at the moment.We hope he gets fit as soon as possible but coming into the team, Jayden has done a great job.
“He’s strong with his backfield carries and showed another side to himself tonight, the high ball take for a try and then that finish. It’s pleasing to see young players coming in.
“We’ve got young players littered all over the team.The senior boys are driving things and the young players with their leg speed and energy are doing a great job for us.”
Wakefield Trinity boss calls for consistency ahead of tough tests
One of Huddersfield’s senior players, Leroy Cudjoe, was playing at home for the first time since hitting his milestone of playing 400 times for the Giants and so a shirt was presented ahead of his 401st appearance for the club.
Wakefield boss Powell pointed to that as potentially a reason why his Trinity side started slow, noting:”With Leroy, there was a fair bit of emotion around that, which he’s been a champion player and guy as well so we all sort of respected that at the start but we probably did that for about 15 minutes too long.
“They played well, started really well with loads of energy and they get us with a couple of poor reads from us and some smart play from them and it took us a while to get into the game.
“Once we got hold of it and started putting pressure on, I always feel like our execution, if we’re on, is going to be good enough to open teams up and I thought we did that pretty well tonight.”
The win moves Wakefield back into the top six but to stay there they’ll have to beat the teams around them and they take on two of those in their next two, facing St Helens and Leeds Rhinos.
On that, Powell said: “They beat us last time out. Saints have given us a couple of lessons and Leeds after but it’s one game at a time.
“It’s an important game for us. We want to stay consistent. Obviously, we’re in and around the six so that’s a big challenge for us.”
