Wakefield Trinity boss Daryl Powell doesn’t understand where the uproar surrounding their bid for St Helens star Harry Robertson has come from.
Trinity have reportedly offered Saints a six-figure fee for Robertson to join the club, with Wakefield needing to pay for the youngster due to him still being on contract.
Powell confirmed in a press conference last week that an offer had been made, which Saints rejected, and that was that.
Shortly after, Saints released a statement saying they had had no contact from Wakefield and that they would not entertain any bid for Robertson whatsoever.
Saints also reported Trinity to the RFL, with their compliance department looking into the proceedings by which Wakefield tried to pursue the star.
As a result of all that, Powell was asked, following their win over Huddersfield, what he made of the Red Vee’s actions, to which he simply replied: “Touchy.”
He continued: “I don’t know, just a bit touchy. I don’t see any reason why.
“We’ve had contact with agent and club, so I don’t know. How do you do it? You usually talk to agents, don’t you?
“For me, there’s nothing in it. Just why are you so touchy?”

The Wakefield boss clarified that they made contact with Robertson through his agent, who then informed the club about Trinity’s interest. The West Yorkshire outfit offered to talk to Saints directly, but the agent said that they would be the one to do so.
“I don’t understand it, to be honest,” Powell added. “I don’t know where it’s come from from their side, but it is what it is, I suppose.
“The RFL will go through it and then take it from there, but players move from club to club, don’t they?
“You contact clubs in a way to enable that to happen. It doesn’t just happen, does it? I don’t understand why they are so touchy.”
Commenting on the kerfuffle, the Trinity boss said:Â “I don’t know where it’s come from within their organisation, but for me, I don’t think we’ve done anything wrong.
“I don’t know why it’s such a stir to be honest. They’ve turned it down, and that’s fine.
“We either go back with an improved offer or it stays as it is, but I don’t think it’s a big issue.”
Asked if a bigger offer could be made, the boss replied:Â “If we feel like it needs to happen, then that’ll be down to Matt [Ellis, owner] really, and what he wants to do. But for me, I don’t know. I don’t worry about it.”
