Wakefield Trinity have announced the contract extension of another promising talent, as outside back Jayden Myers is the latest to commit his future to the club.
Just 24 hours after announcing that 18-year-old Ellis Lingard has signed a new four-year deal, Trinity have secured the signing of another impressive youngster, after Jayden Myers put pen to paper on a new five-year deal.
The Bradford Bulls academy prospect made his senior debut in 2023, and went on to make 39 appearances before moving across West Yorkshire.
Injuries to Tom Johnstone this season have given the 22-year-old a chance to step up and play Super League, and he has not looked out of place so far. In his five appearances, he has averaged just under 100m per game, and has two tries and one assist.
With fellow winger Matty Russell thought to be leaving the club once his contract expires at the end of the season, Myers will be a handy back-up to Johnstone and Lachlan Walmsley, and will continue to develop under the leadership of Daryl Powell and Michael Shenton.
Speaking on his new five-year contract, Myers spoke to the club website and he couldn’t be happier to secure his future.
He said: “I’m absolutely delighted to commit my future to Wakefield until 2030. From the moment I arrived, the past eight months have been an incredible experience, which made the decision to stay at this great club an easy one. The direction the club is heading in is really exciting, and I can’t wait to continue being part of the journey.
“I’d like to say a massive thanks to the coaches, players, and Matt and his family for the work they’ve done to help transform the club. With the foundations now in place, I truly believe we’re on the path to competing for silverware in the near future, and I’m glad to be on board for the next 5 years.”
Coach Powell has praised the effort and development of the winger since joining the club, and hopes he can earn more opportunities at first team level over the next few seasons.
He said: “Jayden has applied himself in an outstanding way since he joined the club. He has been patient and hard working whilst growing within our culture and environment. He has made his Super League debut this year and achieved the respect of his team mates in the process. We are confident he will be a consistent Super League player and I look forward to seeing how he develops in the next few years.”
