Viral social media personality joins London Broncos training to promote Championship opener

London Broncos

Spirits are high in the camp of Championship favourites London Broncos with a viral social media personality giving some insight into the club’s pre-season.

We’re less than two weeks out from the start of the Championship campaign with London set to kick their season off on Sunday, 18th January when they host Widnes Vikings.

One man who will be there is John Fisher, better known to many as Big John, the man who went viral for his love of Chinese takeaway food.

Father of heavyweight boxer Johnny Fisher, Big John is more than familiar with rugby league having done some viral marketing for England ahead of the Ashes and for Warrington Wolves as part of their squad numbers reveal.

Now, Fisher is back in London to see the Broncos train, whilst also confirming that he will be in attendance at the club’s first home game of the season a week on Sunday.

London Broncos use social media star to promote Championhip opener

Posting on his Instagram, Fisher said: “I’m here today (with) London Broncos watching them train. I’ll be at their game on the 18th of Jan.

“Here we are, let’s see how the rugby league boys do it. Bosh! Let’s have it.”

More clips showed Big John in with the playing group, leading a chorus of ‘Bosh’ shouts, his trademark shout before then showing star signing Reagan Campbell-Gillard playing cricket inside the changing rooms.

With over 700,000 followers on Instagram, it’s a marketing technique that could pay huge dividends for the Broncos as they look to kickstart their new era under the ownership of Darren Lockyer and Grant Weschel.

If just half a percent of Fisher’s audience decide to attend a London game on the back of the promise that he too will be in attendance at their season opener, then that would be an extra 3,500 fans through the gate for the Broncos.

And as we all know, once you watch rugby league, it’s very easy to fall in love with it.

Many may sneer at the marketing technique but it could be a stroke of genius for the Broncos who will have to improve off-field aspects such as their attendance if they’re to improve their IMG score, which is set to determine promotion to Super League next year as it stands.
