Victor Radley to be stood down by Sydney Roosters after NRL star’s latest HIA

England international Victor Radley is expected to be sat on the sidelines for an extended period after the NRL star’s latest HIA.

The Sydney Roosters forward left the field in the club’s win over Newcastle Knights after what appeared to be an innocuous head knock, initially reported as a failed HIA.

It’s since been confirmed that Victor Radley did not fail the HIA but the club stood him down and sought expert advice anyway given his well-documented history of head problems, having already been knocked out in the NRL this season.

Upon the recent confirmation that the Roosters would see specialists regarding Radley and his HIA problems, one leading doctor urged him to consider retirement or an extended break from the sport.

Dr Adam Cohen, a leading concussion expert in Australia, suggested Radley would have had more concussions than the reported seven in four years before stating that he would be “urging him to think about giving it away because of the long-term effects of concussion – or at the very least taking an extended break”.

Victor Radley set for month off amid concussion fears

It now appears that Victor Radley will be having somewhat of an extended break with renowned X account @nrlphysio reporting that the England international is set to take “at least a month off”.

Trent Robinson, the Roosters head coach, also confirmed that the club would work on a recovery plan for Radley.

“He’s gone through some really good testing with some specialists and he’s on a really clear plan over the next few weeks,” Robinson said per The Sydney Morning Herald.

“He’ll follow the plans of the doctors and he’ll be back when he’s ready to be back.”

If he were to take at least a month off as suggested, then he would return in around Round 22, meaning he would be available for the final six games of the season and the play-offs, should the Roosters make the top eight.

A further failed HIA during that time would be immensely concerning and would cast doubt over whether Shaun Wane could have Victor Radley available for this year’s Ashes series.
