“Best thing that happened to him” – Tyrone May praised as Hull KR man tipped to join brothers at NRL side

Leeds Rhinos v Hull KR

Hull KR star Tyrone May has been tipped for a move away from the club, and could be set to reuinite with some very familiar faces in the NRL.

May has been a standout performer for the Robins over the past 12 months, and he often goes under the radar with halves partner Mikey Lewis taking most of the credit when he deserves as much, if not even more.

The half-back is currently second in the league for try assists, behind Jackson Hastings, and is a constant influence in the Robins side – when he plays well, you can expect KR to do the same.

However, his time at Craven Park could be coming to an end, and with his contract expiring at the end of 2027, talks have increased about a potential move away from the club.

May’s brothers, Terrell and Taylan, both play for the Wests Tigers in the NRL, and the pair have both signed long-term deals to stay at the club until the end of 2030.

With Jarome Luai being the PNG Chiefs’ first-ever signing, it means that Wests will be in need of an experienced half-back to fill that gap, and May could do just that.

At 29, the Robins talisman still has plenty to offer in the game, and he is already an NRL Premiership winner, doing so with Penrith Panthers in 2021.

Taylan May, the youngest of the three, has praised Tyrone’s development both as a player and a person since moving to Super League, and insists that the family dream of all three brothers playing together is very much alive.

Hull KR star Tyrone May to the NRL?

He told Fox Sports: “That’s always the goal [all three playing together].

“My brother’s going really well over there, but in saying that, it’s probably the best thing that’s happened to him.

“He’s changed a lot and he’s just a completely different person and he enjoys it. He gets left alone there, and he loves travelling.

“I learn a lot [from them] but in saying that, I feel like I’m the oldest. I feel like we help each other in different ways but they’ve been good, especially Terrell being here.

“That’s the reason I came, because Terrell is here. He made me comfortable around the boys and that just makes it easier being around him.”

Wests cannot officially talk to Tyrone about a deal until November 1 of this year, but with the Robins having so much success as of late, May will have a tough decision coming up.

However, an opportunity to play in the top competition with your brothers will no doubt be an opportunity difficult to turn down.
