According to reports, a transfer fee has been ‘agreed’ to as Hull KR attempt to sign one of Warrington Wolves’ forwards.
Second-rower Tom Whitehead is the player in question with All Out Rugby League reporting that the Robins have made a play for the 22-year-old, who has played just once in Super League so far this season.
According to All Out Rugby League, Wire have “accepted a bid from Hull KR” with Whitehead in line to join Willie Peters’ side from the 2026 season onwards.
Whitehead is contracted until the end of the 2026 season which is why the deal has required a transfer fee but Hull KR clearly deem it worthwhile as they look to freshen up their forward pack with some younger legs.
The forward will turn 23 in November but made his Super League debut back in 2022, aged 19, having first signed a professional deal with the Wolves in 2021. Currently, he has 10 Super League appearances to his name with all coming for Warrington.
Hull KR set to swoop for Warrington Wolves forward
Whitehead has been limited in opportunities in 2025 with his one of his two appearances for Wire this year coming late last month in the 31-12 loss to Hull KR. Until then, he had been playing out on loan with the likes of Keighley, London and Halifax.
It’s easy to see why Hull KR are keen given the talent Whitehead has but also what Hull KR lack and that is youth in their pack with the majority of their forwards closer to 30 than 20.
Eribe Doro has proven a bright spark when utilised in 2025 and it would appear that Hull KR could use Whitehead in a similar fashion, signing a developed player and bedding them into their system.
Of Rovers’ current starting pack, James Batchelor and Jai Whitbread are 27 with the likes of Sausaso Sue (33), Jared Waerea-Hargreaves (36 and retiring), Dean Hadley (32), Elliot Minchella (29), Sam Luckley (29), Rhyse Martin (32), and Kelepi Tanginoa (31) all older.
Jack Brown is another of the younger players at 24 but has had limited minutes, like Doro, so adding another young forward with Super League experience makes plenty of sense.
Tom Amone is already confirmed to be joining the Hull KR pack in 2026 whilst Jumah Sambou will link up with the backs as well. Whitehead joins Connor Wynne on the list of those reported to be arriving at Craven Park next year.
As for Warrington, they’re expected to sign Sam Stone imminently with Paul Rowley confirming that the Australian has played his last game for the Red Devils.
