Leeds Rhinos legend Rob Burrow is set to have his legacy continued once again, as Northern Trains have announced they will be making a specialised train to commemorate his life.
Burrow enjoyed a 16-year playing career with the Rhinos that included eight Grand Final wins, three World Club Challenges and two Challenge Cups.
In 2019, he was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease, and alongside former teammate and friend Kevin Sinfield, raised over £15 million for charity.
He passed away in June 2024, at the age of 41, and this is yet another brilliant way of Burrow’s achievements being celebrated.
Northern Trains have said that the naming was requested by a number of employees who were inspired by Burrow’s legacy.
Tricia Williams, managing director of Northern, said: “When we were asked to name a train after Rob, we agreed it was a fantastic opportunity to honour his legacy.”
She added: “So many of us here at Northern were inspired by Rob’s indomitable spirit and his commitment to helping others suffering with this cruel disease. That’s why we want to pay tribute to this great man, help raise awareness of MND and funding which can be used to help find a cure.”

Burrow’s family, who also helped Leeds Rhinos to create their Magic Weekend kits in the past, will once again have their hand in the design, as they help to create the artwork that will go on the train’s livery.
Jo Coker, the MND Association’s director of income generation, said: “Rob was an inspiration both on and off the pitch.
“A man who showed real courage in sharing his diagnosis and opening up a conversation about motor neurone disease which continues to this day.
“As one of the region’s most famous sons, naming a new train after him is a fantastic way to honour Rob’s life and legacy.”
The new train will be unveiled at a station in West Yorkshire later this year.
