Three teens arrested after fan violence at Warrington Wolves v Widnes Vikings as police appeal for more information

Chesire police have shared an update and appealed for more information following the fan violence after Friday’s game between Warrington Wolves and Widnes Vikings.

Warrington and Widnes faced off in a pre-season clash that the Wolves won 50-12, however, the game was marred by fan trouble inside the stadium and later outside the ground as well.

As fans clashed, one teenage boy was taken to hospital with serious injuries following the match though a police statement confirmed that no arrests had been made.

Both Warrington and Widnes shared statements with Wire’s reading: “Warrington Wolves are aware of an incident involving one of our supporters that occurred last night, who was taken to hospital and is currently receiving medical care.

“We are offering our full support to the family and are working closely with the police, and Widnes Vikings in relation to the incident.”

They also urged those with information to speak to the police, who have now shared a new statement and confirmed that three arrests have been made.

Three teens arrested and bailed after violence at Warrington Wolves match

A notice of appeal was published on the website of Chesire Constabulary asking for witnesses to come forward, whilst also confirming that three teens have been arrested.

The statement read: “A 17-year-old boy from Warrington sustained a serious head injury during the incident and is currently being treated at Warrington Hospital.

“Two 16-year-old boys and a 17-year-old boy, all from Widnes, were subsequently arrested on suspicion of assault. They have since been released on bail, pending further enquiries.”

Chief Inspector Robert McLoughlin of Warrington Local Policing Unit said: “I understand that this incident has caused considerable concern for members of the local community and has tragically left a 17-year-old boy needing treatment for a serious head injury.

“Rugby League is a big part of the Warrington and Widnes culture, and the vast majority of fans attend to support their team and their community.

“However, in this instance, a select few chose to engage in behaviour which is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated, and I hope these arrests reassure residents that we are doing all we can to hold those involved accountable.

“I’d continue to urge anyone with any information which may assist detectives with their investigation, to please get in touch.”
