A Super League veteran of over 230 games in the top flight has signed with a Championship club ahead of the 2026 season.
George Griffin is one of several players to leave Castleford Tigers at the conclusion of the 2025 Super League season and his new club has been announced.
The 33-year-old forward has signed with Sheffield Eagles on a two-year deal, with the move ensuring he links up with former Castleford coach Craig Lingard.
It brings an end to a lengthy spell at the Jungle with Griffin having signed ahead of the 2020 season and going on to make 110 appearances for the club, including 22 last season.
Having started his career at Hull KR, he’s represented London Broncos, Wakefield Trinity and Salford Red Devils before his most recent spell with Castleford Tigers, and he’ll now call Sheffield Eagles his new club for the 2026 season.

Super League stalwart joins Sheffield Eagles
News of Griffin’s move to the Steel City was confirmed by the club with a press release that confirmed: “Sheffield Eagles are pleased to announce the signing of forward George Griffin on a two-year deal from Castleford Tigers.”
It’s a move that sees him link up with Craig Lingard having previously played under him in the 2024 season, with the Eagles having also signed Castleford man Josh Hodson this off-season.
Sheffield have also signed York Knights winger Joe Brown, Wakefield’s Harry Bowe and another Knights player in Conor Fitzsimmons.
Discussing his move, Griffin said: “I’m ecstatic to sign for the club, I’ve been talking to Linners (Craig Lingard) for a couple of months now and this move just seems to make sense for me.
“I’ve worked with him before at Castleford, I like the way he operates as a coach and his approach to training and coaching, and I’m really looking forward to working with him again.”
Coach Craig Lingard added: “I’m really pleased to be able to get Griff in for the next two seasons, he’s a massively experienced individual and got a really good pedigree.
“He’s one of the best defensive and technical players that I’ve previously worked with, and I’ve developed a really good working relationship with him.
“I think he’ll be a leader for us on-and-off the field and hopefully he can help bring on some of our younger players, but hopefully he can help develop some more of our senior players too.”
