Super League team of the week as Hull KR and Wigan Warriors stars dominate

Super League

Rivals Round is complete and the Super League table is beginning to take shape as the season approaches the summer months. Hull KR have been the best side in Super League so far this season and they beat Hull FC on Friday to retain top spot, while Wigan Warriors saw off St Helens to move up to second in the league table.

The Warriors beat KR earlier this month and they now sit just two points behind them in the league ladder. Leigh Leopards stunned Warrington Wolves to move up to third, while Leeds Rhinos claimed their fifth win of the season as they saw off winless Huddersfield Giants.

Elsewhere there were wins for Catalans Dragons and Wakefield Trinity with the two clubs striving to find consistency in Super League.
With round eight in mind, we’ve put our neck on the line and selected our team of the round.

Super League Rivals Round team of the week

Full-back: Jai Field (Wigan Warriors)

The full-back beats off stiff competition to work his way into this side, with two tries, three tackle busts and a clean break coming against St Helens.

Wing: Tommy Makinson (Catalans Dragons)

A hat-trick to help Catalans ease to victory over Salford Red Devils.

Centre: Peta Hiku (Hull KR)

A try and an assist for the New Zealand international and 143 metres made to boot. An impactful afternoon in the west Hull sunshine for Hiku.

Centre: Ash Handley (Leeds Rhinos)

Yet another try for the testimonial man. He had two tackle busts in the win over Huddersfield and went for 123 metres.

Wing: Jason Qareqare (Castleford Tigers)

Scored two tries on his return to the side and needed to show all his pace to do so, helping Castleford into a 12-point lead before their collapse.

Half-back: Mikey Lewis (Hull KR)

Lewis showed glimpses of his best against the Black and Whites, rising to the occasion making heaps of metres and setting up two tries on the day.

Half-back: Harry Smith (Wigan Warriors)

Another impressive showing from the scrum-half, who assisted two tries and found joy with both his running and kicking game.

Prop: Jared Waerea-Hargreaves (Hull KR)

A first Hull KR try for the forward and he took it emphatically. Strong as an ox defensively and made 112 metres.

Hooker: Edwin Ipape (Leigh Leopards)

A try, 30 tackles, five tackle busts and eight runs from rummy half sum up the impact he made against Warrington Wolves on Saturday.

Prop: Mike McMeeken (Wakefield Trinity)

McMeeken could feature in the team of the week most weeks, but the 52 tackles he made were critical to victory at Belle Vue over Castleford Tigers

Second-row: James Batchelor (Hull KR)

Back in the side after injury, Batchelor scored the try that probably decided the contest at the MKM Stadium, easing the pressure the Robins found themselves under.

Second-row: Frankie Halton (Leigh Leopards)

Got himself over the line and managed to make 45 tackles as he put his body on the line for the Leigh cause.

Loose-forward: Elliot Minchella (Hull KR)

A whopping 44 tackles made by the Rovers skipper, with nine carries producing 73 metres.
