Super League team of the week as Hull FC, Wakefield Trinity and Leigh Leopards stars dominate

Super League

Round 19 of Super League was an eventful one with a number teams turning in big performances as we approach the business end of the campaign.

Hull KR now sit four points clear at the top of the division after seeing off Catalans Dragons on Saturday evening, with Wigan Warriors falling to defeat on home soil at the hands of Hull FC.

Leigh Leopards are breathing down Wigan’s neck now with the win over St Helens ensuring they are the form side in the competition. Leeds Rhinos and Wakefield Trinity got themselves back to winning ways on Friday night before Castleford Tigers did the same with an unlikely win over Warrington Wolves.

Serious About RL covered all six games and here’s our team of the week.

Super League Team of the Week

Full-back: Zak Hardaker (Hull FC)

He’s probably been Hull’s player of the season so far and he was exceptional at full-back once more on Saturday as the Black and Whites stunned the champions. Bailey Hodgson was a close second but Hardaker just edges it.

Wing: Alfie Edgell (Leeds Rhinos)

A hat-trick of tries helped Leeds on their way to a comfortable victory on the night. He’s been in an out of the side this season but he might just have done enough to nail down a spot.

Centre: Jack Broadbent (Hull KR)

Two tries and an assist for the centre in the south of France. Hull KR weren’t at their very best against Catalans but they did more than enough and Broadbent got each half underway with a try.

Centre: Tesi Niu (Leigh Leopards)

Another top class showing from one of the signings of the season. He was physically dominant on the night and made his presence felt with a number of key tackles.

Wing: Jayden Myers (Wakefield Trinity)

The youngster was making just his third appearance for Wakefield but he underlined his class with two tries in a comfortable win over Huddersfield Giants.

Half-back: Mason Lino (Wakefield Trinity)

Four assists on the night for Lino is some going and underlines his dominance throughout the contest. If he can continue that form, Wakefield will push Hull all the way for a spot in the six.

Half-back: Aidan Sezer (Hull FC)

Bossed Wigan Warriors from start to finish. Picked holes in the Wigan line, terrorised them with his kicking game, claimed two assists and got himself over for a try as well.

Prop: Mike McMeeken (Wakefield Trinity)

A try, an assist and 110 metres for the big man, who turned in yet another huge performance for the Trin.

Hooker: George Lawler (Castleford Tigers)

Selected at hooker, Lawler tackled everything that moved against Warrington Wolves, making 49 tackles and he made the most of a Lachlan Fitzgibbon error to get over for a try.

Prop: Joe Ofahengaue (Leigh Leopards)

Another fine pick up at Leigh. Ofahengaue has been superb since joining from the NRL and he grabbed himself two tries at St Helens to underline that fact.

Second-row: Jed Cartwright (Hull FC)

Cartwright scored Hull’s opening two tries at Wigan and it’s fair to say he enjoyed himself against the Warriors. If he can stay fit he’ll be a huge asset for Hull down the stretch.

Second-row: Josh Griffin (Wakefield Trinity)

A fourth and final Wakefield Trinity man in this week’s team of the week, Griffin made 144m in 12 carries this week. He got himself over for a try, too, to continue his impressive form.

Loose-forward: Joe Westerman (Castleford Tigers)

Set the tone and led the way for the Tigers through the middle, with 45 tackles and 104 metres made in 13 carries.
