Super League team of the season so far as Wigan Warriors and Hull KR stars dominate

Super League

We’re 10 games into the Super League season now and as the competition takes a break for the Challenge Cup, it feels like a good time to take stock of what we’ve seen so far.

Hull KR have been the best team in 2025 and they rightly sit on top of the Super League table at present. Wigan Warriors delivered the Robins’ first loss of the season, though, and Matt Peet’s Cherry and Whites are just two points back in second.

Leigh Leopards have been one of the surprise teams of the season so far, with the Leopards dropping just five points all season, while Leeds Rhinos and Hull FC occupy the remainder of the top five.

St Helens, Catalans Dragons, Wakefield Trinity and Warrington Wolves all find themselves locked on 10 points after averaging a point a game, while Castleford Tigers, Huddersfield Giants and Salford Red Devils already find themselves cut adrift at the bottom of the table.

With the first 10 games in mind, here’s our team of the season so far.

Super League team of the season so far

Full-back: Jai Field (Wigan Warriors)

Field is the best player in the competition and on the back of what we’ve seen this season so far, few could argue otherwise. The full-back leads the Super League try scoring charts with 12 to his name at present and with seven assists to boot, he is the most threatening man with the ball in his hand.

Wing: Nick Cotric (Catalans Dragons)

The winger is third in the Man of Steel rankings at present and that’s because he is consistently impressing week on week. He only has one try to his name with Catalans’ attack making a habit of misfiring, but only Junior Nsemba and Jack Welsby have more than his 52 tackle busts and with an average gain of 8.94, he’s proving to be extremely effective with the ball in hand.

Centre: Jake Wardle (Wigan Warriors)

Wardle has eight tries and three assists to his name this season, underlining just why he is considered the best centre in the competition. His partnership with Liam Marshall is lethal and together they’re just as strong in defence, too.

Centre: Oliver Gildart (Hull KR)

Gildart has been back to his best this season and with six tries and five assists under his belt, he’s been a key man for the Robins. The centre has worked well with Joe Burgess and Rovers fans will be keen to see him avoid a lay-off after picking up a knee injury last time out against Salford.

Wing: Matty Ashton (Warrington Wolves)

There’s simply no stopping Ashton at times and as it stands he has nine Super League tries from just seven outings. That tally includes a hat-trick against St Helens in his last outing, while he bagged two in defeat to Hull FC last month. He’s made over 100 metres in five of those games with nine clean breaks coming, too.

Stand-off: Bevan French (Wigan Warriors)

There’s plenty of competition for the half-back spots in this team and while Mikey Lewis has recorded the same number of tries (8) and assists (10) as French, the Wigan man just about gets the nod. Super League defences know all about French and the ability he possesses but preventing him from producing game winning moments is easier said than done. He’s been sensational to watch yet again this year.

Scrum-half: Jake Connor (Leeds Rhinos)

It was always obvious that in the right environment Connor could thrive once more and he’s doing just that at Leeds under Brad Arthur. He’s been excellent in a couple of positions under the Australian as it stands, he has 13 assists and two tries.

Prop: Herman Ese’ese (Hull FC)

The powerhouse middle has been Hull’s leading man under John Cartwright this season, with his size and strength regularly proving too much for defensive lines. He’s scored five league tries this season with two more efforts coming in the cup and with 23 offloads recorded, he is just one behind Tevita Pangai Jr. With 50 tackles busts on his record as well, he’s been the most explosive prop in the division this year.

Hooker: Edwin Ipape (Leigh Leopards)

We’ve come to expect man of the match worthy performances from Ipape now and he’s been in superb form once more this season. He scored his third try of the year on Saturday at St James’ Park and his stats make for impressive reading registering 51 runs from dummy half, something only Jez Litten has matched, 205 tackles, four clean breaks and 23 tackle busts.

Prop: Mike McMeeken (Wakefield Trinity)

The headline stat here comes in defence with McMeeken making 401 tackles over the season so far. The forward has played big minutes under Daryl Powell and he’s put his body on the line over and over again for the Wakefield cause, with Catalans’ Ollie Partington being the only man to register more tackles this season. McMeeken has two tries, two assists and 1044 metres to his name, too, just to hammer home his influence.

Second-row: Ethan O’Neill (Leigh Leopards)

O’Neill has been one of the pick ups of the season so far. He was something of an unknown quantity to many coming over from the New South Wales Cup, but he’s more than impressed in Super League. He’s got three tries, while he’s also made 316 tackles.

Second-row: Dean Hadley (Hull KR)

Hadley has been a man mountain in the Rovers pack this season, splitting his time between back-row and the middle and playing massive minutes. He’s made 321 tackles and 66 marker tackles but the stats don’t do his efforts justice in red and white.

Loose-forward: Elliot Minchella (Hull KR)

Minchella continues to have a huge influence on both sides of the ball for the Robins. He’s made 391 tackles for the Robins this season so far and 76 marker tackles, too. Despite all that defensive work, though, Minchella dusts himself down and helps to dictate play, with the ball regularly passing through the loose-forward’s hands.
