Months of uncertainty have finally come to an end with a venue locked in for the 1895 Cup Final between London Broncos and Widnes Vikings, with the match now set to be played at a Super League ground.
The game, set to be played on the August Bank Holiday Monday, will be played at Warrington Wolves’ Halliwell Jones Stadium with the final of the 1895 Cup moving away from Wembley for the first time in its history.
First played in 2019, the future of the competition was uncertain heading into 2026 given the restructure to the sport below Super League as the Championship and League One amalgamated.
Once it was formally confirmed, a new format was announced but no venue until now, meaning even the semi-finals were played without a confirmed destination for the victors to meet at.
That’s now been locked in with Super League ground the Halliwell Jones to play host in what is surely a big boost to Widnes and their fans, given their close proximity to Wire’s stadium.
A statement from the RFL confirmed the news with all details now announced for the match.
That statement read: “The venue for the 1895 Cup final has been confirmed.
“London Broncos will play Widnes Vikings at Warrington Wolves’ Halliwell Jones Stadium on Monday August 31, kick-off 3pm.
“The two clubs haven’t faced each other since the opening weekend of the Championship season when London prevailed 44-12 on January 18.
“Leaders Broncos have gone on to win all 14 league games this term as well as march to their first-ever 1895 Cup final.
“Widnes, set for their first final since the inaugural event in 2019, sit fifth but are on an eight-match winning run in all competitions.
“Ticket prices are £20 adults and £5 juniors. They are available to purchase from RL Commercial’s ticketing platform on Monday (noon).”
