Super League round 16 predictions including Leeds Rhinos v Hull KR as two upsets tipped

Round 16 of Super League starts tonight as Warrington Wolves host Catalans Dragons but the headline game comes on Friday night when Leeds Rhinos welcome Hull KR, and our predictions for that game and every other one is in.

Before looking at who we’ve picked this week, we’ve assessed how the round 15 Super League predictions went with Peter Smith scoring a perfect seven from seven to return to the top of the season leaderboard.

As mentioned above, Wire kick the week off with a home clash against Catalans, who have now won three of their last four and also beat the Wolves earlier in the season.

Friday is headlined by the Las Vegas repeat as Leeds welcome Hull KR whilst York Knights visit Castleford Tigers in the evening’s other game.

There’s a triple-header on Saturday starting with Wigan visiting Hull FC before Toulouse host Leigh, with the evening rounded off by Bradford Bulls taking on St Helens in a battle between former colleagues Kurt Haggerty and Paul Rowley.

The final game of the week then sees bottom-of-the-table Huddersfield travel to Wakefield Trinity. Our predictions for that one and all six other games, as well as an updated season leaderboard, can be seen below.

Super League Round 16 predictions

Warrington Wolves v Catalans Dragons – Thursday, 25th June @ 8:00 pm

Peter Smith: Warrington 30-16 Catalans

The French side may be improving, but Warrington will be worried if there isn’t a response to last week’s home drubbing by Leeds Rhinos

Sam Cook: Warrington 24-20 Catalans

A huge game for Warrington given how handily beaten they were last week and what’s to come, with Leigh, Wigan, Hull KR, and Leigh in their next four after this. With home advantage, I’ll narrowly favour them in a close affair.

Sam Brocksom: Warrington 18-22 Catalans

Going for a shock and I’m backing John Cartwright’s side to get the job done. Wire have a depleted pack, and if Catalans can play for the full 80 they’ve a real chance of victory.

Castleford Tigers v York Knights – Friday, 26th June @ 8:00 pm

PS: Castleford 40-10 York

Tigers aren’t going to make the play-offs, but they are getting better and will be too strong for a York side beginning – unsurprisingly – to look out of their depth.

SC: Castleford 36-18 York

The same scoreline that Castleford beat Toulouse by last week is my pick. The Tigers are turning a corner with Ryan Carr and despite being battered, York showed against Wigan that they can stay in the game and score points but they likely won’t have enough for a win here.

SB: Castleford 36-12 York

I can see this game going similar to last week against Toulouse, with Castleford dominating the majority, but York still showing small signs they can compete.

Leeds Rhinos v Hull KR – Friday, 26th June @ 8:00 pm

PS: Leeds 24-10 Hull KR

Both teams have lost just one of their last 10 Super League games, but Rhinos seem to have found a way to beat the Robins with three successive wins against them.

SC: Leeds 36-12 Hull KR

Whilst I don’t think this will be anywhere near as bad as Vegas, Leeds do seem to have the secret to beating Hull KR and they’re unbeaten at Headingley this year. If the Robins play anything like they did last week, a side of Leeds’ quality will punish them.

SB: Leeds 30-14 Hull KR

KR will want some Vegas revenge, but you’d argue Leeds are in far too good form to not win at Headingley, in what is also their annual MND round.

Hull FC v Wigan Warriors – Saturday, 27th June @ 3:00 pm

PS: Hull FC 12-40 Wigan

Wigan are the form team at the moment and even if Hull have one of their occasional good days, it’s unlikely to be good enough.

SC: Hull FC 6-62 Wigan

Hull FC do have a bizarre knack of turning up against Wigan with four of Matt Peet’s 26 career losses coming against the Black and Whites and we have seen the Warriors lose to both Huddersfield and Castleford this year. That said, Wigan look unstoppable right now and this could get ugly.

SB: Hull 6-30 Wigan

Wigan scored 72 last week, and whilst I don’t think it will be that high a margin this week, they should still be comfortable winners

Toulouse Olympique v Leigh Leopards – Saturday, 27th June @ 5:00 pm

PS: Toulouse 30-20 Leigh

If Lachlan Lam’s back the visitors will be favourites, but the conditions will suit Toulouse and if they can play for 80 minutes, rather than their usual 20, they might spring a surprise.

SC: Toulouse 24-27 Leigh

The heat will play a massive factor here and if you could guarantee an 80-minute performance from Toulouse as opposed to them only clicking after 40 minutes as we’ve seen so often, then they would be my pick. However, with Lachlan Lam back, I think Leigh get back on the winning run in a very hard-fought clash.

SB: Toulouse 20-22 Leigh

Leopards will have Lachlan Lam, Josh Charnley and potentially Owen Trout back this week, which will be a big boost for their top six ambitions.

Bradford Bulls v St Helens – Saturday, 27th June @ 8:00 pm

PS: Bradford 20-16 St Helens

Saints will be expected to win, but they aren’t playing well and Bulls have been good at home so this might be a shock result.

SC: Bradford 24-22 St Helens

A really intriguing game and with Bradford’s home form and Saints’ recent struggles, there could be an upset on the cards.

SB: Bradford 16-10 St Helens

The apprentice topples the master as Haggerty gets his first win as a head coach over Paul Rowley.

Wakefield Trinity v Huddersfield Giants – Sunday, 28th June @ 3:00 pm

PS: Wakefield 50-6 Huddersfield

This is only going to go one way and that’s not Huddersfield’s.

SC: Wakefield 54-6 Huddersfield

Huddersfield lack so much direction in attack at the moment and Wakefield, even without a number of backs, can be so dangerous just based on their powerful pack.

SB: Wakefield 34-14 Huddersfield

Giants are very slowly improving, but Wakefield will be too strong for Jim Lenihan’s side.
