Super League Round 14 predictions as pundits agree on Wakefield Trinity v Wigan Warriors but split on three ties

The predictions are in for round 14 of Super League, and our writers are split on three ties, including St Helens v Warrington Wolves.

Before we get into this week’s picks, let’s look back to last week, where Sam Cook picked up six points to tie him level with Peter Smith at the top of the leaderboard. Sitting just one point behind them is Sam Brocksom, showing just how tight it is in the table, with every prediction proving pivotal at this point.

One of the biggest games of the round sees Saints take on Warrington, and that is the fixture that kicks the action off on Thursday night. Paul Rowley’s side have lost three of their last four, and will want a response in front of their home crowd.

On Friday, the earlier kick-off sees Toulouse Olympique take on Leeds Rhinos before Hull KR face York Knights and Wakefield Trinity welcome Wigan Warriors.

Hull FC play Huddersfield Giants as part of a double header on Saturday, with Catalans Dragons and Castleford Tigers’ clash taking place shortly after. Lastly, Odsal plays host to Bradford Bulls v Leigh Leopards, in what is the final clash of the weekend.

St Helens v Warrington Wolves – Thursday 11th June @ 8:00pm

Peter Smith: St Helens 16-24 Warrington

Sam Cook: St Helens 18-20 Warrington

Saints have a poor record against Warrington recently, and form doesn’t favour them either. That said, Warrington are without some key players so it could be close.

Sam Brocksom: St Helens 18-14 Warrington

Saints have been poor in the past few weeks, but all of their last four have been away from home. I’m backing home advantage to come through this week, and Saints to claim a narrow win

Toulouse Olympique v Leeds Rhinos – Friday 12th June @ 6:00pm 

PS: Toulouse 12-30 Leeds

SC: Toulouse 8-32 Leeds

The heat could stop this being more as big a rout as some Leeds games this year but I still expect a comfortable win, especially as Toulouse are without star man Olly Ashall-Bott.

SB: Toulouse 10-28 Leeds

On paper, Leeds should be dominating, but the French weather and the travel could put a spanner in that plan. That’s why I’m backing a slightly smaller margin for victory.

Hull KR v York Knights – Friday 12th June @ 8:00pm

PS: Hull KR 50-10 York

SC: Hull KR 52-10 York

Earlier in the year Hull KR bounced back from a tight defeat against Catalans by beating St Helens by this same scoreline at home, and the same could happen this time after the loss to Wakefield.

SB: Hull KR 44-10 York

Robins need to respond, and being back at home they should be able to do that with relative ease, especially against an out-of-form York.

Wakefield Trinity v Wigan Warriors – Friday 12th June @ 8:00pm

PS: Wakefield 20-24 Wigan

SC: Wakefield 20-24 Wigan

I think this could be a game where missed conversions are costly. The cup game between these two was intense, and I expect similar, with the returning Harry Smith set to be pivotal.

SB: Wakefield 8-22 Wigan

Plenty will say that fatigue will catch up with Wigan, and this could be the game that it happens. I’m not so sure, and with Bevan French potentially back, I can see them defeating Trinity

Hull FC v Huddersfield Giants – Saturday 13th June @ 3:00pm

PS: Hull FC 30-10 Huddersfield

SC: Hull FC 16-14 Huddersfield

Two teams desperate for a win and that likely spells a really scrappy affair. Hull’s pack is bolstered with loanees, and that could prove the difference.

SB: Hull FC 6-14 Huddersfield

This will simply be a game of who avoids a loss rather than who wins. However, that doesn’t make it any easier to predict. I’ve got no clue how this one goes, but I’m going to say that George Flanagan Jr will be the difference maker.

Catalans Dragons v Castleford Tigers – Saturday 14th June @ 6:00pm (UK)

PS: Catalans 20-30 Castleford

SC: Catalans 28-24 Castleford

Another close game and home advantage could seal it. Castleford have improved a lot the past three weeks but the class of Catalans’ backs may make the difference.

SB: Catalans 12-24 Castleford

Castleford didn’t play poorly against Leigh, but they need to fix up their mentality after conceding errors and penalties. If they do that, they could come home from Perpignan with two points

Bradford Bulls v Leigh Leopards – Sunday 15th June @ 3:00pm

PS: Bradford 20-28 Leigh

SC: Bradford Bulls 20-28 Leigh Leopards

Odsal is becoming a fortress for Bradford, but Leigh are on a tear at the moment and should find a way.

SB: Bradford 22-30 Leigh

Bradford have been great at Odsal this year, and will certainly put up a fight against Adrian Lam’s men. That being said, I’m tipping the Leopards.
