Super League Rivals Round attendances as three games sell out and five record 10,000+ crowds

The Super League attendances from ‘Rivals Round’ are in, with five of the seven games seeing five-figure crowds.

The triple-header on Good Friday saw each game record crowds of 12,000 or more. Hull KR’s 24-6 victory over Hull FC was a sell out at Craven Park, as 12,325 fans watched the Robins claim the spoils.

The 3pm slot on Sky Sports was taken by St Helens and Wigan, and what a game to be in the prime time spot. Saints scored four tries in the final nine minutes to record a 34-24 comeback win, with KR loanee Bill Leyland crossing for two of those tries on debut for the club. This game was also a sell out, with 17,890 fans in attendance to watch Paul Rowley’s side claim victory.

On Friday evening, the Bradford Bulls-Leeds Rhinos derby took place in Super League for the first time in 12 years, and fans turned up to witness the return of one of the sport’s most historic and most prestigious rivalries. A total of 14,991 spectators travelled to Odsal to watch that one, as Brad Arthur’s men claimed a 24-12 victory.

Moving on to Saturday’s action, where again three games took place. Starting at the Accu Stadium, 4,172 fans watched Huddersfield Giants defeat York Knights, as the home side claimed their second win in a row under interim boss Liam Finn.

At the same time, Leigh Leopards travelled to Warrington Wolves, however it would be an afternoon to forget for Adrian Lam’s side, who were beaten 42-6 in front of a 11,026-strong crowd.

Later that day, Catalans Dragons took on, and beat, French rivals Toulouse Olympique in a 33-26 thriller. Over 10,000 French rugby league fans were at the Stade Gilbert Brutus for that one, in what is a great showing for rugby league in the country.

Lastly, Castleford Tigers and Wakefield Trinity faced off in front of a crowd of 9,455. For the majority of those fans though, they would leave the Onebore Stadium disappointed as the Tigers succumbed to a 34-0 defeat.
