Just over a week after being released by Wakefield Trinity, prop forward Isaac Shaw has landed himself a trial with a rival Super League club.
Shaw was off-contract with Trinity at the end of the season but secured an early release ten days ago as he sought ‘another opportunity’.
It’s now been confirmed to Serious About Rugby League that the new opportunity is with Trinity’s Super League rivals Castleford Tigers.
The Tigers have a new man in charge of their recruitment after the appointment of Chris Chester and it would seem he has got to work quickly with reports of overseas arrivals following the release of Judah Rimbu, and now confirmation of Shaw’s trial at Wheldon Road.
Spotted at the Jungle last night in Castleford training gear, Shaw watched on as Hull KR tore apart the Tigers 48-0 as they continued their dominant run in Super League with Peta Hiku scoring the 100th try of his career and former Cas man Jack Broadbent picking up the Man of the Match medal.

Shaw could be a brilliant pick-up for the Tigers with the young prop very highly thought of during his time at Wakefield, only to find some of their overseas recruits push ahead of him in the pecking order.
The 22-year-old had made just 12 appearances for Wakefield since making his debut in 2022, playing five times that year as he was blooded in as a teenager.
He failed to make an appearance for Wakefield during the 2025 campaign with his six games coming whilst on loan with Batley Bulldogs.
Trinity had released a statement confirming Shaw’s exit came with ‘mutual consent’ as he looked to ‘pursue another opportunity’.
That’s now been confirmed to be a trial with Danny McGuire’s side where he will look to make more of an impact and hopefully secure a deal for 2026.
