Recently released Super League forward signs with new club Down Under

A forward who was recently released from his Super League contract has signed with a new club Down Under for the rest of the 2025 season.

That man is former Castleford Tigers and Papua New Guinean international powerhouse Sylvester Namo, who was released to make way for new signing Tom Amone.

Castleford confirmed the signing of Amone for the remainder of the 2025 season last month and that took them above the overseas players quota max of seven, meaning someone had to make way.

Namo was then omitted from the Round Eight game against Wakefield Trinity and it was confirmed in the days after that the Papua New Guinean man had been released, something he first confirmed on his social media.

Posting on Instagram, he said: “Thank you Castleford Tigers for the great opportunity and experience here. Really appreciate it. On to the next chapter.”

Namo has now taken to Instagram again to share news of his new club with the forward snapped up within a fortnight of his Super League exit.

Sylvester Namo’s new club confirmed after Super League exit

Namo has been snapped up by Brisbane Tigers with the Queensland Cup side signing Namo and announcing the move via their Instagram.

The Tigers’ sole Queensland Cup win came in 2023 but they currently sit 11th in the ladder with just five points from six games.

Another familiar name in their squad is former Wakefield Trinity man Luke Bain who was also released from his Super League contract to facilitate another overseas signing as Trinity signed Caius Faatili.

Announcing Namo’s arrival, Brisbane posted: “Bringing the Tiger eno all the way from England,” with Namo sharing that post to his own personal page.

A number of former Super League players star in the Queensland Cup with former London Broncos man Jack Campagnolo among the competition’s star performers so far in 2025.

Nixon Putt is another former Castleford Tigers man playing in the comp following his exit at the end of the 2024 season.
