The referee appointments for Round 12 of Super League have been confirmed including who will take charge of Warrington Wolves v Hull KR, a game which is effectively a Challenge Cup Final dress rehearsal.
Wire host Hull KR on Friday night 15 days before the two sides face off at Wembley as the 2024 runners-up go head to head with the 2023 runners-up.
Willie Peters has played down the relevance of the side’s meeting two weeks out from such a big game as he insisted much will change come Wembley, including the possible return of George Williams, but it will certainly be an interesting spectacle.
Hull KR will be without Jared Waerea-Hargreaves after he copped a two-game ban following his sin bin against Huddersfield Giants. That was the only sin bin of the round with referees thankfully able to keep cards in their pockets.
Looking ahead to this week, we’ve checked who is the referee and video ref for every Super League game.
Who is in charge of this week’s Super League games?
We kick off on Thursday night with a rematch of the only draw so far in Super League as Leigh Leopards host Hull FC with both teams coming off tough defeats.
Leigh still sit third in Super League whilst Hull FC look to end a run of four defeats and Tom Grant is in charge of that one with Jack Smith the video referee.
There are two Super League games on Friday but the big clash between Wire and Hull KR will be overseen by Aaron Moore who could be in contention to referee the sides at Wembley, whilst Ben Thaler is in support as video referee.
Friday’s other game sees Chris Kendall take charge of Huddersfield Giants against St Helens with Marcus Griffiths on video support.
There are two games on Saturday with the first being a West Yorkshire derby as Leeds travel to Castleford where Liam Rush will be the referee, supported by Chris Kendall. the later game takes place in France as Wigan journey to Catalans where Jack Smith will be in charge with Tom Grant his video referee.
Sunday’s game between Salford and Wakefield will be overseen by Liam Moore with Liam Rush serving as video referee.

Ben Thaler may be marked as the video referee, but given the chance he judges every decision as if the match referee looking for things that weren’t even passed up for adjudication. It looks to me like he goes searching for additional minor infringements, that had passed unnoticed and had no effect rather than looking at only the matter referred for adjudication!
The rules need to be tightened to stop searching. Yes to onside/offside, touch, proper grounding, deliberate foul play. But looking for the most obscure supposed shepherding, minor obstructions, etc. that’s got to stop. If the referees aren’t spitting it in play, if the players aren’t blowing up, then it didn’t matter and evens out over a season. It would speed up these tedious five minute mini classes in refereeing.
If referees want to do something, the players aren’t the ball, ball on the ground, foot on the ball, play the damned thing properly. There is still a lit of rolling the ball back barely making an effort.
