York Knights have announced the latest addition to their 2026 squad, and have brought in a promising Hull FC youngster on loan for the 2026 season.
The Mark Applegarth-led side have announced numerous signings for their first campaign in Super League, following the confirmation of their top flight status.
Players such as Paul Vaughan, Jon Bennison and Sam Wood will all be turning out for the Yorkshire outfit next year, with many of their League Leaders’ Shield-winning squad in the Championship signing new deals to stay with the club.
Now, they have strengthened even further, and have brought in Denive Balmforth from the Black and Whites, following a breakout Super League season in 2025.
Making 21 appearances for both FC and Catalans Dragons last year, Balmforth cemented himself as a regular in the top flight, and will look to continue that at the LNER Community Stadium.
Working alongside former Man of Steel Paul McShane, the 22-year-old will be hoping to bring that attacking spark off the bench that has served him well in his career so far.
Balmforth recently earned his first international cap, after representing Wales against Ireland in a two-match series, and even scored in the second fixture.

Speaking on his new recruit, Applegarth couldn’t hide his delight to get the signing over the line.
“Denive’s going to add an injection of pace out of nine. I’ve coached Denive in the England programmes coming through the youth ranks and I can’t thank Hull FC enough for letting us have a season long loan.
“He could be anything he wants to be. He’s got all the ability in the world for his age.
“I’m really excited about working with him again. I think the York fans will really enjoy watching him play, especially if we get on the front foot.”
Commenting on what the partnership between Balmforth and McShane will do for the youngster’s game, he added:
“Denive’s a great nine to come off the bench and inject some pace and he can’t ask for a better mentor to be learning how to play nine off than Paul.
“I’m really looking forward to working with him and he’ll be a massive addition to the squad.”
