New name tops Super League Man of Steel leaderboard with Hull FC pair leading chase from Wigan Warriors trio

Super League Man of Steel

A surprise name tops the Super League Man of Steel leaderboard with the top ten confirmed as Hull FC and Wigan Warriors men lead the chase.

The points from Round Eight of Super League have been added to the overall Man of Steel leaderboard and that’s seen a new name top the charts, and a potentially surprising one based on pre-season expectations.

Leeds Rhinos’ Jake Connor currently tops the rankings having picked up 14 of a maximum 24 points, two of which came against former club Huddersfield Giants on Good Friday. Lachlan Miller claimed three and Tom Burgess one in that game.

Connor has been integral to any success that Leeds have had this season and he’s done it from a number of positions. Signed as someone to add depth and cover, he’s certainly done that with Connor starting the season at full-back in place of Lachlan Miller and then transitioning into the halves alongside Brodie Croft and now Matt Frawley.

He’s got 11 assists in 2025 which is just one behind leader Jack Welsby and his influence at the Rhinos is clear for all to see, however, there’s a strong pack chasing him down.

Round Eight Super League Man of Steel points

Connor jumped ahead Herman Ese’ese and Aidan Sezer who had been sat in first and second on the Super League Man of Steel rankings, but both slipped after picking up zero points in their side’s loss against Hull KR.

The spoils from that game went to Arthur Mourgue (3), Peta Hiku (2) and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves (1), but it’s last year’s Man of Steel Mikey Lewis who best represents the Robins as he sits in sixth place overall with seven points.

Friday’s other game between Wigan Warriors and St Helens saw Jai Field earn three points and Harry Smith pick up one, whilst George Whitby secured two in defeat. Like Lewis, Field also sits on seven points for the season whilst Jake Wardle (6) and Junior Nsemba (6) also rank in the top ten.

The first game of Super League Rivals Round saw Wakefield Trinity defeat Castleford Tigers and all the points went to the victors with Caius Faatili (3), Mathieu Cozza (2) and Mike McMeeken (1) claiming the points. McMeeken is another who finds himself in the top ten on the season with seven points.

Saturday’s games saw Leigh beat Warrington and Catalans smash Salford and unsurprisingly, members of the winning teams claimed all the points. Lachlan Lam took three, Isaac Liu two and Edwin Ipape one, but it’s actually Umyla Hanley (6) who represents Leigh inside the top ten.

As for Catalans, Tommy Makinson’s hat-trick saw him earn a hat-trick of points, Luke Keary bagged two for his three-assist display and Julian Bousquet was also recognised. Fellow Dragons’ winger Nick Cotric actually sits in the top ten on the overall leaderboard despite not playing for the past two weeks.
