Super League Magic Weekend 2025 is in the books and we’ve selected our team of the round after plenty of star performances.
In the 18th edition of Super League Magic Weekend, a record attendance for the Sunday was recorded as over 64,000 turned out in what was the best-attended Magic since 2018.
It kicked off with a tight game between Catalans and Leigh as the Leopards edged it 26-24 with both teams set for Challenge Cup semi-final games next week. Catalans’ opponents Hull KR hammered Salford 54-0 before Leeds defeated St Helens 17-4 to round out day one.
Day two kicked off with Huddersfield Giants securing their first win of the season as they beat an ill-disciplined Hull FC, before Wigan saw off Warrington Wolves 22-20. The final game of the round saw Wakefield Trinity cruise past their West Yorkshire rivals Castleford with a 32-8 win.
We’ve picked out a XIII who impressed across Super League Magic Weekend.
Super League Magic Weekend team of the week
Full-back: George Flanagan – Huddersfield Giants
Several full-backs deserve honourable mentions including Arthur Mourgue, Jai Field and Bailey Hodgson, but George Flanagan was outstanding for the Giants. Solid under the high ball, he also made a try-saving tackle that proved the difference as Huddersfield earned their first Super League win of the season.
Winger: Jake Thewlis – Warrington Wolves
Recalled from his loan at Salford, the younger Thewlis brother justified that call with a two-try display. He was also pivotal in Rodrick Tai’s score as he traversed the field and set up his brother to assist the Papua New Guinean.
Centre: Jake Wardle – Wigan Warriors
The England centre created Bevan French’s try but it was his defensive efforts where he stood out with some huge tackles to put players in touch. He also forced Matt Dufty beyond his own in-goal late on when Wire were threatening a come-back with the resulting goal-line drop-out securing the game for Wigan.
Centre: Adam Keighran – Wigan Warriors
Keighran joins his teammate in this team with the Australian racking up ten of Wigan’s 22 points. He raced away to score a try and kicked three of the four conversions and Wigan will be very keen to get him re-signed for 2026.
Winger: Lachlan Walmsley – Wakefield Trinity
On his recall to the team Walmsley justified Daryl Powell’s call as he scored twice with both finishes very impressive, particularly the first.
Stand-off: Ben McNamara – Leigh Leopards
Stepping up to face off against his dad, Ben McNamara was Leigh’s star and has put forward a very good case to start in the Challenge Cup semi-final. He grabbed a try and kicked all of his goals which proved the difference in a two-point win.
Scrum-half: Adam Clune – Huddersfield Giants
Luke Robinson has bemoaned injuries all year and Clune has been one of the key players missing. The difference he made was immeasurable with the Australian putting in a stellar performance as he commanded the side and gave them a sense of calm late on when Hull threatened a comeback. You won’t see many better cut-out passes than the one he laid on for Jacob Gagai’s try.
Prop: Joe Ofahengaue – Leigh Leopards
Making his Super League debut, Joe Ofahengaue certainly had a Magic Weekend to remember. The forward made over 20 tackles but carried for a whopping 155 metres which was the most of anyone in a game where Leigh had to grind it out.
Hooker: Jez Litten – Hull KR
Litten is coming into his own this season and is certainly knocking on the door for an Ashes call-up. He bagged two tries but it was the pace that he injected into the game that impressed the most. Few players are as dangerous when running out of dummy-half and that was evident with his average carry being over 10 metres.
Prop: Caius Faatili – Wakefield Trinity
The Wakefield Trinity prop scored twice and whilst the first was impressive, the second was the best try of the weekend. Receiving the ball inside his own half he ran a brilliant line to the outside before darting back inside and stepping Tex Hoy to race away under the sticks.
Second-rower: Morgan Gannon – Leeds Rhinos
Gannon showed exactly why New Zealand Warriors have signed him with the second-rower scoring one and creating another, whilst also making 34 tackles and a whopping 141 metres with only Lachie Miller beating that for the Rhinos.
Second-rower: Ethan O’Neill – Leigh Leopards
O’Neill didn’t get close to the metres that teammate Ofahengaue did but he made an impressive 35 tackles and took his try brilliantly. He’s proving to be one of the smartest signings this year and Leigh are miles better with him in the side.
Loose forward: Leroy Cudjoe – Huddersfield Giants
Cudjoe proved pivotal in Huddersfield’s first Super League win with the veteran scoring his first Magic Weekend try, despite playing in the 2010 edition of the Super League showpiece. On top of his try were stat lines of 32 tackles and 122 metres with a team-leading six tackle busts.
An amazing return to Newcastle 🙌
