The referee appointments for Super League Magic Weekend have been locked in including the Saturday showpiece of St Helens v Leeds Rhinos, set to be overseen by Jack Smith.
Magic Weekend is back this weekend and it’s back in Newcastle with Super League returning there after a hiatus in 2024, when the event went to Elland Road.
It will be the 18th edition of Magic Weekend and it returns to its more traditional date of May Bank Holiday weekend, as opposed to last year when it was held in August and that’s seemingly pleased Super League fans.
Ticket sales are trending in the right direction and there are a number of great games to look forward to as well after another action-packed Round Nine.
Plenty of the discourse revolved around the red cards shown when Hull KR faced Leeds Rhinos so all eyes could be on the referees this weekend and the appointments have now been confirmed.
There was also plenty of talk about the video referee process and how it slows games down so with sharp 2 hour 15 minute turnarounds between games, efficiency is even more important this weekend.

With it being Super League Magic Weekend, there are obviously no Thursday or Friday games so the action starts at 3pm on Saturday when Leigh face Catalans with Liam Moore in charge of that clash, supported by Chris Kendall as the video referee.
League leaders Hull KR then take on Salford with Liam Rush in charge and Aaron Moore in support before the first day of Magic is rounded out when St Helens face Leeds Rhinos, a match overseen by Jack Smith with Ben Thaler on video referee duties.
Sunday kicks off earlier at 1pm with Huddersfield looking to finally get their first win and they’ll take on Hull FC. Aaron Moore takes charge with Marcus Griffiths serving as the video referee.
The clash between Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves is then officiated by Chris Kendall with Jack Smith supporting, before Tom Grant oversees the final game of the round when Cas take on rivals Wakefield. James Vella will be the video referee for that game.
