Super League Magic Weekend finished in chaotic fashion on Sunday as St Helens narrowly lost to Wigan Warriors with both teams now nursing injury issues that could be significant.
Those sides were not the only teams to pick up knocks with Magic Weekend seeing several players go down, including some for what’s expected to be a long time.
In terms of the on-field action, Leeds Rhinos stretched their lead atop Super League thanks to their win and the fact that Warrington slipped up to Leigh, who push ever closer to the top six.
Hull KR saw off Hull FC for an eighth consecutive game after the round opened up with York defeating Huddersfield. Sunday saw Wakefield put Castleford to the sword, whilst the game in France saw Toulouse hammer Catalans but there are more than just bruised egos across Super League and here is the injury round-up.
Super League injury round-up
Huddersfield Giants v York Knights
The first game of the week marked Huddersfield’s tenth straight loss but they also lost three men to injury with Asher O’Donnell perhaps the most serious as he was the victim of a hip-drop tackle that saw him pick up an ankle injury.
Fenton Rogers also suffered an ankle injury whilst Chris Patolo failed a HIA after seemingly being knocked out when trying to tackle Xavier Va’a.
Hull KR v Hull FC
Game two saw Davy Litten fail a HIA meaning he won’t be available for Hull FC’s game against York Knights but their opponents Hull KR seemed to come through unscathed.
Leigh Leopards v Warrington Wolves
Leigh then beat Warrington but they lost Tesi Niu to a knee injury as a result of Sam Powell’s hip-drop tackle with the centre appearing to be in some pain.
Davey Armstrong revealed post-match that he could not see from his left eye whilst Joe Ofahengaue looked to pick up a calf injury, whereas Wire’s Max Wood came off with a knee injury.
Wakefield Trinity v Castleford Tigers
Sunday saw Castleford hit hard with HIAs as George Hirst, Brock Greacen and Tyler Dupree all failed, whilst Liam Hood was also removed over concerns for his neck which is significant given how long he missed with a neck injury.
Darnell McIntosh was another injury sustained with the outside back feeling his groin meaning the Tigers could lose up to five players, though they’ll certainly be without three for this week’s match.
Leeds Rhinos v Bradford Bulls
Ryan Hall was the major injury in Leeds’ win over Bradford with the veteran winger seen in a boot after a plantar fascia injury. Jake Connor picked up a shoulder knock but played on, however, the same couldn’t be said for Leon Ruan who picked up a leg injury for the Bulls.
Wigan Warriors v St Helens
The final game of the weekend was the most brutal with Wigan Warriors and St Helens both losing several players though the most concerning injury came for Nathan Lowe, who ruptured his hamstring and then had to be stretchered off after fainting due to blood pressure spikes.
Junior Nsemba also suffered a hamstring injury but Saints were badly hit with Alex Walmsley failing a HIA, Daryl Clark sustaining an ankle issue, and George Delaney heading off for a HIA that he did not return from but the result is yet to be confirmed.
