Super League injury news as Hull KR, Hull FC and Warrington Wolves dealt Magic Weekend blows

Super League Magic Weekend injury round up as Hull KR's Oliver Gildart suffers injury

Super League Magic Weekend is done and dusted for another year, with some clubs having a more successful trip to Newcastle’s St James Park than others, particularly those who have come away with worrying injury news.

On day one, Leigh Leopards opened up Magic Weekend with another close encounter as they beat Catalans Dragons 26-24.

Hull KR extended their lead at the top of the Super League table with a 54-0 win over Salford Red Devils. Whilst Rovers weren’t at their best, especially in the first half, it was job done in a victory over the league’s lowest-ranked team at the time.

Leeds Rhinos may not have put in the performance of the season against St Helens but a 17-4 win meant they moved into the top four in the league.

To start day two, Huddersfield Giants registered their first win of the 2025 Super League season with a 12-10 win over Hull FC. Liam Knight’s red card just before half-time hindered the Black and Whites, but Adam Clune’s return for the Giants made a huge difference.

Wigan Warriors held on for a 22-20 victory over Warrington Wolves after a late comeback from the Wolves.

Finishing off the weekend with a solid win, Wakefield Trinity secured a 32-8 victory over Castleford Tigers as they became one of four teams on ten points in the table.

However, a number of clubs have injury problems to contend with, following their Newcastle trip.

Super League Magic Weekend injury news

Whilst a number of players went off for HIA checks, all came through and returned to the field across the weekend.

Hull KR’s Oliver Gildart limped off with a knee issue; however, Sky Sports’ Jenna Brooks stated that it wasn’t as serious as first feared, but he didn’t return to the field of play.

Having only just returned from injury, Harvey Barron went off in the first half and was replaced by Tom Briscoe. He has a hip issue and is unlikely to play next week.

Warrington Wolves are suffering from a number of injuries as of late, with Danny Walker ruled out of Magic Weekend. It’s now been confirmed that he requires knee surgery and will be out for about 10-12 weeks. Lachlan Fitzgibbon also left the field with an unknown injury. However, upon celebrating the Wolves’ last try, he was shown on the sidelines reaching up with his arms and then clutching his mid-section, indicating it could be a rib issue.

Tex Hoy pulled up for the Castleford Tigers, trying to defend Caius Faatili’s barnstorming run down the middle. However, he will have a full two weeks to recover from his leg injury as the Tigers host Salford Red Devils on Sunday 18th May.

Catalans Dragons utility forward Benjamin Garcia left the field with a groin injury and would be a big miss for the French side as he’s played in all but one of their Super League games this season.
