York Knights have confirmed the loan signing of Huddersfield Giants forward Matty English with the 28-year-old making a cross-Super League switch for the remainder of the season.
It’s also been reported by Love Rugby League that English will sign a permanent deal with the Knights in 2027, however, the Super League club have only confirmed a loan move for now.
The 28-year-old is in a testimonial year at Huddersfield having debuted for the Giants back in 2017 with English making over 150 appearances for the club, 144 of which have come in Super League with a further four in the competition whilst on loan at Castleford.
He last played for the Giants earlier this month in the home defeat to Bradford but he was 18th man for last week’s game against York, who he now joins.
Announcing his exit, Huddersfield said on X: “Matty English has joined York Knights on loan until the end of the season.”
Their attached statement also noted that they would not be renewing English’s contract, adding: “The decision not to extend the 27 year old beyond the end of this year was a difficult one for the club to make and today’s announcement will help Matthew establish his path in 2027 and beyond.”

York Knights sign Super League forward Matty English on loan
It would seem that his long-term future is at York, per the report from Love Rugby League, but his immediate future certainly is with the Knights announcing his loan move.
A statement read: “York Knights have signed prop forward, Matty English on loan until the end of the season, thanks to support from Squad Builder!
“He joins from Huddersfield Giants, where he has spent 10 seasons and earned a testimonial year in 2026.”
A big boost for York is the fact that English is available to play on Saturday against St Helens with the forward to go straight into their squad.
It’s expected that he will not be the only addition made with Serious About Rugby League understanding that the Knights will loan in Andy Djeukessi from Newcastle Thunder, in place of David Nofoaluma who is out with a HIA.
