Super League-linked NRL star agrees deal to remain down under

Super League NRL

Super League linked Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad has agreed a deal to stay at New Zealand Warriors until the end of the 2027 NRL season. Nicoll-Klokstad was off-contract at the Warriors and had been linked with a move over to the Northern Hemisphere, with Catalans Dragons and London Broncos said to keen on signing the full-back.

However, the 29-year-old has penned a new two-year contract extension with the Warriors, ending all talk of a move over to Super League for the time being.

It means Nicoll-Klokstad, who joined the club from Canberra Raiders ahead of the 2023 NRL season will extend his time in Auckland to five years, with the New Zealand international being a popular figure at the Warriors.

“We’re thrilled Charnze has extended his time with us,” said New Zealand Warriors’ general manager of recruitment, pathways and development Andrew McFadden.

“He attracted interest from a lot of other clubs but has thankfully decided to stay here.

“He’s important to us on so many levels, not least what he brings on the field but also with his leadership, attitude, guidance and contribution off the field.”

Head coach delighted to keep Nicoll-Klokstad in NRL

Head coach Andrew Webster added: “Keeping Charnze means so much to us. He plays such a huge part at our club and we didn’t want him going anywhere else.

“The energy he brings every training session, every game and around the club is unbelievable. He’s all heart and soul and we love him.”

Nicoll-Klokstad started his career at the Warriors but made just seven appearances before joining the Raiders in 2019. He spent four seasons in the capital, playing 66 times before heading back to New Zealand to link up with his home town club once more.
