Super League round 21 is behind us but a number of players have come out of it with a long injury rehab ahead of them. We’ve picked out all the noted injury concerns after the latest action.
That action started on Thursday night when Hull FC lost to Huddersfield Giants as the Black and Whites’ losing streak continued. Debate before that game revolved around Herman Ese’ese‘s fitness and when he wasn’t named to the team sheet, many assumed he had been dropped.
Interim coach Andy Last clarified that later on as he confirmed that the prop had tonsilitis which ruled him out of playing.
Friday night saw another key man ruled out of playing as Adam Keighran didn’t line up for Wigan on account of a groin injury sustained in the team’s final warm-up, something that will rule the centre out for two weeks. Josh Charnley also didn’t play for Leigh due to an ankle injury that will be monitored this week.
Alfie Edgell also didn’t play for Leeds due to a late hamstring tweak whilst fellow youngster Ned McCormack failed a HIA in the Rhinos’ 46-0 win over Toulouse, ruling him out for this week’s game.
Friday night’s other game saw Bradford Bulls lose to Hull KR as Kurt Haggerty’s side also picked up three more injuries. Prop Ryan Sutton suffered a calf issue, whilst outside backs Connor Wynne (shoulder) and Guy Armitage (leg) also picked up problems.
Onto Saturday’s games where Tom Weaver failed a HIA for Castleford but the bigger concern was that Jason Qareqare missed out due to a hamstring injury that could end his season.
On Qareqare’s injury, Carr revealed: “He’s out for a fair while.”
Asked if it could be season-ending, Carr confirmed: “Possibly.”
Loan signing Matty English also missed out for York on account of a knee issue in training, with scans set to take place today (Monday).
