Round Fourteen of Super League has seen a number of players pick up blows and here’s the injury news round-up of the week.
We’ve now passed the halfway stage of the Super League season with 14 of the 27 rounds played but some players look set to miss a lot of the upcoming rounds as injury issues were prevalent in Round Fourteen, with clubs set to await further news in the coming days.
The on-field action saw Hull KR reassert their position at the top of Super League with a resounding 68-6 win over Catalans and for a long period, it looked like that would extend their lead as Wigan trailed Huddersfield.
However, Jack Farrimond scored in the final seconds to give Matt Peet’s side the win and hold the gap to two points. Leeds kept their pressure on the top two as well as they hammered Warrington, whilst Leigh edged Wakefield Trinity to establish themselves firmly in the top four.
Castleford upset Hull FC whilst St Helens beat Salford in the other results. Here’s a round-up of the injury news from all those Round Fourteen Super League games.
Round Fourteen Super League injury news
There was no Thursday night game and Friday was a Hull-centric night with both FC and KR hosting games. Both seemed to come through fine but the same couldn’t be said for Rovers’ opponents Catalans.
Tariq Sims lasted just a couple of minutes before he limped off with a calf issue whilst Tommy Makinson looked to agitate his wrist, though bravely played on.
Saturday saw perhaps the most devastating injury news of the round with young Arron Lindop seemingly having done his ACL. Sam Burgess couldn’t confirm it but pointed to that as the possible issue, which could end the teen’s season.
James Harrison will certainly miss next week’s game after failing a HIA, something which St Helens’ George Whitby also did. Whitby was one of three Saints to suffer injury with Curis Sironen (back spasms) and Joe Batchelor (calf) also leaving the field, with Wellens expressing more concern about the latter.
Lachie Miller left the field early on Satuday against Wire but that was confirmed to be precautonary and a result of cramps. Saturday also saw Bevan French miss Wigan’s game against Huddersfield, whilst Adam Clune (TBC) and Joe Greenwood (hip) also had issues in the game.
Sunday saw David Armstrong battle through against Wakefield but his hamstring, which has ruled him out previously, clearly isn’t right yet. Salford’s woes were worsened by Kai Morgan hyper-extending his elbow though Paul Rowley will hope it’s not too bad.
