Round 13 of Super League wrapped up this weekend so we’re now approaching the halfway stage of the season and yet more names have been added to the injury list.
After a break for the Challenge Cup, Super League returned on Thursday night as Leeds Rhinos continued their strong season with a 24-16 win over St Helens, but challengers Warrington Wolves kept the pace on Friday night with a 12-4 win over Hull FC.
Friday also saw Leigh Leopards see off Castleford Tigers whilst Bradford Bulls kept up their strong home form to beat York Knights, who now sit 13th after Toulouse Olympique overtook them when beating Huddersfield Giants on Saturday.
Saturday also saw the Challenge Cup finalists return with victors Wigan winning once again, 40-16 in Paris against Catalans, but losers Hull KR lost late on against Wakefield Trinity in a drama-packed game.
That game, like several others, was not without injury so we’ve gone through and rounded up the injury news from Super League round 13.
Super League round 13 injury round-up
Leeds Rhinos seemed to come through fine but their opponents St Helens lost several players, whilst a number of others missed out. Owen Dagnall missed out through illness but Harry Robertson had a quad concern in the match as Joe Shorrocks also dealt with a dead leg.
Hull FC lost to Warrington on Friday night but they also lost star man Zak Hardaker to a HIA though Andy Last revealed that the veteran had ‘felt a crunch in his neck’, causing more concern.
Josh Thewlis and Ewan Irwin missed out on that match, the latter with illness, whilst Toby King suffered an ankle injury that caused him to leave the field.
Like Hardaker, Castleford’s Brock Greacen failed his HIA so he will miss out against Catalans next week, who could be without captain Benjamin Garcia (ribs) and winger Matty Russell (leg).
Tray Lolesio also failed his HIA after the tackle that saw Sauaso Sue sent off but there was also concern for Corey Hall who was subbed early with an ankle injury. Hull KR’s Sam Luckley played through a knee issue that Willie Peters described as an ongoing ‘niggle’.
